DS2 has a incredibly long body. I had this problem with ds1, but ds2 also has quite short legs. Most babygrows are too short in the body length. I have got some Mothercare ones that are fine in the body length, but the legs are so long when ds pulls his legs up they get stuck in the leg.

Was going to buy some Next ones to try but wondered if anyone else had this problem and where they bought theirs from.

what about something like these?

nobodysfool · 03/02/2009 20:08

I'm having the same problem for ds2-5weeks old.
I have found the tesco range fantastic and so cheap!

Seona they look very ingeneous. I think the baby shop near me sells those so I will go and see if I can see them in person.

nobodysfool I have got some from Tesco but I find the proportions are all wrong for my ds. The body is only just long enough in 3-6 months but the legs are far too long. My ds is only 8 weeks and on the 50 centile it's just he seems to have very odd proportions. I have also tried Matalan, Primark and Asda and none of them have long enough bodies.

I like footless ones as well (ds1 had massive feet so that created a whole load of other problems with babygrows) but how the hell do you get socks to stay on their feet? .

I think I may have found a new business venture babygrows for long bodied, short legged, big foot babies. Is there a market?

I had this with DS. I got around it by getting longsleeved vests and jersey trousers with integral feet, I think I found them in Matalan eventually.

Tutu, Sainsbury's sleepsuits are long in the body IME

fairimum · 04/02/2009 21:52

the sock suits are fantastic for short legs and they last so so well, we have some that had already been used for ny neice and nephew and now dd is wearing them! highly recommend them!

tutu100 · 04/02/2009 22:55

Thanks jic i went and got some from TU today and they are much longer than any others I have looked at. Fairimum I am going to get some of those sock suits as soon as funds allow. They look like an excellent idea, particularly for when he gets older.

another, more expensive option is petit bateau if you have one anywhere near you.

I was given some by a french friend and had to conclude that french babies have longer, thinner bodies than english ones! Can't remember leg length tho.

i have a long bodied baby who is also in cloth nappies so outfits have been bursting at the seams! i got some vest extenders, i think from perfectly happy people catalogue. the only vests they don't fit are gap - the poppers are a bit funny on those. so only works for bodies and vests but have been really useful in the long run. he was in bodies and trousers quite early on.

would second the velour/jersey footed trousers, they're really great - loads of them in mothercare. I do get sick of babygrows tbh.

tutu100 · 05/02/2009 23:23

I'm using babygrows all the time because they are so quick and easy to dress him in. With ds1 aswell I'm afraid poor ds2 is quickly dressed in whatever comes to hand.

The TU sleepsuits are great ds2 often wears cloth nappies (we're getting near to full time). And there is plenty of room for those as well. Also the legs aren't too long so they're not flapping about.

Ds is 6mths and is shuffling around on the floor atm, fitting v nicely in a 9-12mth babygro from Peacocks... nice bright colours too (multi-coloured dinosaurs).
