Anyone got a tap cover for babyproofing the bathroom - if so, which one?

I want to buy tap covers for the bath and bidet. Also should I buy something to secure the toilet seat? I leave the DTs in the bathroom for minutes at a time before bathtime while I get their stuff ready. They can't crawl or pull themselves up yet but it is only a matter of time (9mo)!

sorry, I never used any of them for my lo's (not even the toilet lock)

do you mean something like this?

poopscoop · 03/02/2009 20:11

gosh the things they have these days! tap cover! never had those in my day and we all survived. Sometimes it can get a bit OTT but each to their own.

You really don't need to babyproof everything, just keep them out of the bathroom or keep them occupied with something more interesting when they're there. You'll end up forking out hundreds of pounds on unnecessary gadgets if you think that way.

We don't even have cupboard locks (had one on the cleaning stuff cupboard but then I broke it and we've not found it necessary to replace it - though to be honest I think we should).

That said, I only have one child so things are clearly going to be more complex with two.

I really don't think tap covers are OTT. I am the most laid-back of parents (you have to be with twins) but I do leave them in the bathroom on their own while I get their stuff together. I don't want them pulling themselves up and turning the hot tap on. I can't really keep them out of the bathroom, or if I did it would be much harder than just putting a cover over the taps.

Yes Seona, that is the sort of thing, thanks. I have aready seen that one, wonder if there are any others cheaper.

BTW, I don't have cupboard locks either and don't plan to get them. I never mentioned cupboard locks. I know what I need to make safe and I need to make the taps safe.

"gosh the things they have these days! tap cover! never had those in my day and we all survived. Sometimes it can get a bit OTT but each to their own." I thought that MN was supposed to be a friendly place where you could go to find help and advice.

I confess I am just a shopping addict and will happily buy every product out there. I'm kept busy all day chasing after one baby so I don't know how you do it with two!!

I have used [[http://www.thebabycatalogue.com/prodinfo.asp?number=BA035&variation= these" before. They are also cushioned so if there is a fall whilst in the tub, there is less damage to heads!!!

neenztwinz · 03/02/2009 22:03

Thanks puree, they are the one I have already seen so maybe they are the only ones.

Yes you wonder sometimes why people on MN can't just answer the question or keep their smug opinions to themselves

could you not tie a muslin/flannel on the tap? and put something on top of toilet seat (towels/bin?) as ime the gadgets attract interest and they can figure them out eventually and then do it for fun (dd is great at opening stairgates!)

neenztwinz · 03/02/2009 22:08

That's a great idea, thanks littleducks. Will have a think what I can use...

I had an inflatable one from Mothercare - it lasted about six months before slowly deflating, which was just about the length of time I needed it. Think it was about £2.99.

We don't have cupboard locks either - but we did need to keep the taps covered for a while.

neenztwinz · 03/02/2009 22:17

Don;t you think that was a bit OTT Botbot

Just looked on Mothercare website, couldn't see anything

I would love something to put over the taps to stop ds playing with them - he's 22 months and is obbsessed with turning them on whilst he isin the bath - I'm terrified he is going to scald himself

Botbot · 03/02/2009 22:35

Yes

Just looked myself, and it definitely isn't on the website. I got mine a couple of years ago so maybe they've stopped selling them

onadietcokebreak · 03/02/2009 22:37

Was going to suggest a fannel as well!

May be worthwhile looking at market/kleeneze catalogues........
