Sling Addicts! Advice Needed Re Wrap Sling with Least Material Please!

Didnt get on with the Close at all - all that spare material! DC2 due May, need something to take him to when he's big enough to go in beloved Baby Bjorn. Think it has to be a wrap sling cause even weight distribution while holding baby in nice position while they are so small. But i am so terrified by the mess that was the Close...

it might have been that the close one was too long? How big are you dress size wise? You might need a shorter one. I would plump for either a stretchy wrap like a moby/kari me/wrapsody etc or if you want one which will last longer in terms of weight and also will be much more supportive go for a woven wrap like a storchenwiege/bb slen/Hoppiediz/girasol/didymos.
they come with comprehensive instructions.
OR you could try and contact slingjax.co.uk or www.mamanatura.co.uk and ask for a demo with their sling agents or even go to www.slingmeet.co.uk to try other peeps slings before you buy them

I have a stretchy moby wrap and love it!

So does DD, she moans abit getting into it but then she sleeps the whole time! Have been using it with her lay down but have had her sat up facing me in it a few times and she lovesit.

Def reccomend!

Yes, stretchy wrap and lop off the ends if it's too long - just make sure you take equal amounts off each end, so that the centre marker is still in the right place.

swottybetty · 03/02/2009 13:03

it never occured to me to lob off the ends. it seems that a lot of the stretchy wraps are designed for a rugby playing man who wants his sling to carry baby in every poss position til dc is five . tbh - didnt get onn with close also cause folds came undone and couldnt refold - tried so many times.

been looking at wovenn wraps and may try that as an alternative - they come in dif sizes. whenever i see people with stretchy ones they always look messy, but there is a woman with a storch at my library always looks neat. tho' that could just be her!

Yes, you can keep wovens tidier. They're not quite as soft and snuggly to get a tiny baby in and out of, but they'll last you longer.

I would have mentioned them but you said you only wanted it to tide you over till you could use the Baby Bjorn (but personally I don't like the BB and I would recommend a woven wrap instead )

If you're interested, you could also consider a lighter weight fabric, such as GypsyMama/Wrapsody it is cooler in summer. Storchs etc. are fabulous and will hold a five year old comfortably, but they are hot for summer.

Something like an Ellaroo or a Gauze wrap would be great for the summer....I can imagine you going back to a BB after learning to tie a wrap . They do come in different sizes but for a newborn a new wrapper of average size really needs a 4.6m wrap.
