Inexpensive Kitchens - any recommendations?

I'm having an extension built soon with a new kitchen, so I need new cupboards, worktops, sink etc. I'm keeping the old fridge, dishwasher and oven so won't need to buy new ones.

Can anybody recommend a good place to buy a kitchen that's not too expensive? Ikea? B&Q? Wickes? Howdens? Any other suggestions? I don't mind ex-display or independent manufacturers.

My budget is up to £2500 (preferably less!) and I live in South East England.

Thankyou!

I just bought a new kitchen from Wickes. I got mine in the offers, (which seem to be on all the time at the moment). I spent £650, that is without worktops, and I have a sink, so didnt need to buy one. I still have to decide on worktops which are about £50/£60 each.

meant to add, that was for 7 base units, 5 wall units, 2 wine racks, end panels,

have a look here

Ikea - if you can fit it yourself, we got a fab kitchen for £1000, DH fitted it.

Recommendation for IKEA too...bought ours 4 years ago and it's really good quality (I bought worktops elsewhere though as IKEA didn't have any I liked). You have to design it all yourself though, so make sure you go through these designs thoroughly with whoever is fitting your kitchen.

has to be Ikea - my builder even commented on what good quality the units were.

If you can, though, spend money on a good worktop, that's where it shows. I have a solid wood one from Ikea, which isn't bad, but I wish I'd gone for a slightly better one from elsewhere.

ooh and sinks/taps etc from Franke, about the same price as Ikea but top quality. Get them from www.sinks-taps.com.

Another vote for IKEA - the glossy range which comes in white, black and red. Our architect recommended it. Very smart and has weared incredibly well.

We have an ikea kitchen and it looks fab. DH fitted it (and he is is the Navy so not exactly an expert) with help from me and DS (ha ha). they delivered it - and no bits were missing and we had no complaints at all.

Bought it in France and for units cost about 2000 E - which at the time was aobut £1500.

If you don't like their taps / worktops etc - splash out on other ones. We also bought ikea glass splashbacks which worked out a lot cheaper than tiles and were very easy to fit.

MrsCurly · 03/02/2009 12:02

Yes we bought worktop, taps and sinks elsewhere - worktop from B@Q, taps from Franke, sink I can't remember.

Ooh, thanks guys! We've got a Wickes locally and I'll have a look on the Ikea and sinks-taps websites.

Can you order online from Ikea now? You used to have to go to the branch (good excuse for a trip to Lakeside, though!!)

I found another website that sell ex-display kitchens at bargain prices - Used Kitchen Co. Nothing right for us at the moment but duckyfuzz etc might find something on there.
