If you could have a Stokke Xplory or a Bugaboo Cam, which would you choose?

Purely hyperthetical broodyness pondering, but if I had another baby I would go straight for the lust-after pram, instead of going through a different pram every few weeks to see if I could find one I liked as much (never happened). Everyone seems to have the Cam, but hardly anyone has an Xplory, why?

right ok. have had both

found the bug carrycot too low down. when dd4 was in it, all i could see was the tuft of her hair. it bugged me a lot so i sold the cam, then mithered about for ages trying to decide on what to get. it was between a stokke and m+p skate, as they are both up high. i actually put a holding deposit down on a skate at a offer price at m+p, but whilst saving for the balence, the stokke came up on a bargain from a friend, so i gotthat instead. the skate will be cancelled next week and i will get my deposit back.

i love the stokke, as lies flat with the baby insert, the footmuff is very snug, the seat is up high and its fully adjustable, inc seat height and handle height, goes onto two wheels easily without having tio take the seat off like u do with the bugaboo. handles most places well (unl;ess you live up a mountain then get a mountain buggy).

fold i9s big, but no bigger than a bugaboo.

I love my Xplory. Fretted about buying it because of the price but still using it everyday nearly a year later. DS loves being up so high - when you wheel it into a shop he is normally counter level so tends to get talked to more. Also great if you are eating out without a high chair as you can push it right up to the table. I think it really is a pram for people who walk as supension is great and, as far as I can tell, it seems really comfy. Mine turns really easily - maybe the earlier ones didn't? However it doesn't fold easily and is bulky when folded which is a pain. It is also heavy there's no doubt about it. I've mastered stairs with it now but there is a very definite technique needed not like with a lighter buggy where you can bump it up and down easily. Not necessarily a good thing but people do really notice them - men particularly seem to love them weirdly enough!

Misdee - no you didn't. Fortunately haven't had to go to a funeral for ages.

misdee · 02/02/2009 22:42

I love my Xplory, trundles up and down the 8 steps to my front door, take it on tubes (not escalators though!), buses, trains - it's been from London to Newcastle and back on the train with very little hassle. Now DD is on solids we use it as a high chair if there isn't one in whichever cafe we're in for lunch. So glad we got it.

It's no heavier than the chameleon my cousin had, but it's always going to be heavier than a stroller.

To be honest I wouldn't offroad with it anyway, if we were going on a country walk DD would be in a sling! Haven't found it top-heavy either.

Lastly - you don't need to bother with the carry-cot, the standard seat is fine for a newborn when fully-reclined, we've been using that since birth and it's fine (carrycot was introduced to comply with EU regs, seat was designed to take newborns). If you just buy the basic model it's about the same price as the chameleon.

I would take the cash, please

ninedragons · 03/02/2009 12:05

Love my Xplory.

Only use it on public transport and for walking around, though - we have a Golf and it wouldn't fit in the back.

It's great having the baby up high and facing you - we have a little umbrella job for the boot of the car and DD strongly prefers being up high in the Xplory.

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 03/02/2009 12:08

I love my chameleon, can't recommend it enough. I can push and turn it with 2 fingers and the pushchair is at a lovely height so DS is up at the table with everyone else when we're out eating (he's not quite big enough for restaurant highchairs yet)

SweetApril · 04/02/2009 21:38

I love the Xplory, as does DD. It has its faults, most of which have been mentioned here, but it's still a great buggy.

Have had a few minor niggles which were dealt with very quickly and efficiently by the retailer and Stokke themselves. They even gave it a service and sent a courier with a box to put it in and returned it within 2 days. Actually, I was a bit slow to arrange the service and Stokke called me about 4 times just to remind me! Pretty good customer service, I thought.

Needahand - Such a shame the problem you had put you off the Xplory. I had the same thing with the seat dropping down even though mine is the newer version I think. But it was really easy to fix by putting in a small part sent to me with easy-to-follow instructions by the retailer. No probs at all since.
