Is there such a thing as a dropside bed? For easy settling/co-sleeping...

Have been wondering... ds is 6mths and is happily asleep in our bed (after the resettling in his cot failed) but obv I am on tenterhooks waiting for him to wake and crawl off the bed . He settled beautifully (and without boob ) with me next to him but I hate the stupid cot with the side in the way and I am too small and sooooo clumsy trying to settle him in his cot, and this is on it's highest setting! I was the same with dd and much happier when dd went into her bed (14mths or something)

What I really need is a single bed in his room that has three sides and a side that can be completely dropped when I climb in for comfort purposes and raised for safety when I go downstairs... The perfect co-sleeping bed!

Does it exist?
Or do dh and I have to make it?!

no, i don't think there is,.
there is a cot like it though, which you can have pushed right up to your bed

i am sure i have seen a little cot/bed that pushes up by the side of the bed and has no side between your bed and the cot ,i dont know what they are called but im sure someone else will know.

Is this what you're after?

Well, we used to have a mini co-sleeper (I sold it when I got the hardly used baby hammock - he'd be too big now) but in practice there was still a gap (used that pointless long body maternity pillow!) and our bed now has a huge ledge on the side...

how about this?

Could you use a sheet going from the cot to your bed? With th epillow underneath?

Umlellala · 29/01/2009 20:53

I was wondering about a proper adult sized bed like that - so you can settle, raise and leave.

that looks sweet. though it looks like the dropside doesnt actually work if it is against your bed... and also wouldnt work next to our bed . think i will just put the bed next to the wall and climb out the bottom. its a big bed, would take him a while to crawl- unlikely he'd do it without crying...

Sorry, x-posts while trying to find the link

aw, thank you all for finding dropside cots for me.

Am I the only one with this problem? I'd, well, his sister would love to be able to settle him in his room with his sister (and bring him in to us later) but the easiest way to settle him is on a bed... ah, maybe it's not that long to wait to put him in a bed

i just used to have our regular cot pushed up against the bed, then i'd settle ds2 to sleep on the bed, move him gently into the cot and then put the side up

Umlellala · 29/01/2009 21:24

yeah, it's the 'moving gently' part I have trouble with. Maybe my cot isn't great but I settle him calmly in bed/on me/in arms, then clunk him over the side of the cot and try to shhhhushh and hold his wriggly little legs and arms while he (mostly) wakes up and cries at the indignity of it all. dd was exactly the same (though slept in her cot more. though ds is a better sleeper i think ).

we'll muddle through
