Sling-a-ding! Calling all SSC Slingers

OrangeKnickers · 29/01/2009 19:40

Hello,

I have a Angelpack and a Yamo SSC (the Yamo is much better). But ds is 18mths and getting a bit big. I was wondering what the next size up SSC would be. I am thinking of getting a Beco / Ergo or would like recommendations.

I am looking on the babywearingswap site and slingmeet but hoped there were some slingers out there who could assist.

Obv if you have one for sale that's even better!

Hey, I carry my 6mth ds and 2.9 (skinny) dd in the Ergo quite easily... am waiting for a lovely Mei Tai which if I get on with means I will sell my Ergo. But I do love it! Not had the shoulder problem (I am quite small).

mrsleroyjethrogibbs · 30/01/2009 15:54

how about a toddler patapum they are taller than both if I remmeber rightly

Yeni · 30/01/2009 20:16

I've found that the Ergo slips off my shoulders and pushes my trousers down. The Ergo isn't much taller than the Yamo. Is it the Beco Butterfly you're thinking of? I have one and it is my most comfortable carrier but I haven't tried it with a larger toddler.

If the height of the carrier is your concern maybe you could look at the toddler patapum or the ToddlerHawk.

lindenlass · 30/01/2009 20:28

I love our ergo! So does DH.

Yeni how come it slips off your shoulders? Do you do the chest strap up?

PS. I also am a complete convert to mei tais

Yeni · 30/01/2009 20:43

I do the chest strap up as tight as it will go. I think I must just have narrow shoulders though you'd never know it to look at me!

mrsleroyjethrogibbs · 31/01/2009 07:16

I found that with the ergo too tbh and all ssc's . MT's were the only thing that worked well apart from wraps for my narrow boney shoulders.

foxytocin · 31/01/2009 07:49

i had the original ergo. had strap problems too. i am v. light of build. hated fannying with the chest strap, adjusting buckles etc. plus dd1 was a leaner and on top of panicing about that as a newbie, the ergo had to go

i ubderstand the new gen ergo is taller but with its new and improved (higher) price ...meh.

agreed go with a TH or toddler patapum.

cornedbeefpasty · 31/01/2009 08:01

i have an ergo....size wise, my tall 4yo can be carried comfortably (although she's heavy and looks ridiculous in it! ) and my 2yo loves being carried in it.

it has become rather redundant though since i got my rose and rebellion carrier!

roseandrebellion.com

comfy, funky and different! every time i wear it i get stopped by people asking about it......

Yeni · 31/01/2009 08:44

My Ergo is the New Gen and I don't think it is any taller. There is a New, New Gen where the chest strap is attached onto the shoulder straps so it will stay put which is a definite plus (the Beco has the same thing) and the hood straps are shorter. I think the short body on the Ergo is really only an issue if your child leans backwards and even though they are probably perfectly secure it feels quite unnerving.

I like the look of those Rose and Rebellion carriers. I was looking at the website the other night and I would have been tempted were it not for the slightly vague return policy.

I've decided to have another go with my BH on my back this weekend. I haven't had much success with a back carry up until now but I think I'm going have a go at a Tibetan tie.

OrangeKnickers · 31/01/2009 10:25

thank you for all the replies!

I like the totddlerhawk but it's a bit unsexy - which is a stupid reason not to get it.

Rose and rebellion carriers look lovely and they have the extra straps that the TP does.

And reversible - genius.

Cornedbeefpastry - do both your kids if in the R&R?

cornedbeefpasty · 31/01/2009 12:42

yes they do....my 4 yo actually prefers it to the ergo...she says its comfier!

am happy to answer any questions on the carrier if you have any doubts!

chocolatetart · 31/01/2009 12:55

hi. i'm actually on the r and r webpage!

i have become friends with the lady who designs the carriers, so we helped her out with some demonstrating!

i'm pictured with my ds who was about 20 months at the time, and also my dd who was nearly 5...she's on my back on the home page...she's got plaits and a pink top on and i'm wearing her in a carrier with black straps.

i love the carriers..really comfy to wear, stylish to look at and unique! i too get stopped almost every time i wear mine out.

OrangeKnickers · 31/01/2009 18:30

ooooo I just bought one! I am so excited! They are sending it today! I really hope it's even comfy than my Yamo. I choose the French Fancy pattern.

Does anyone want to buy a Angel Pack - dh says I can't have three SSCs. So unreasonable. I feel a AIBU moment coming on.

Yeni · 31/01/2009 20:09

Which Angel Pack is it (the LX or Eco)and what colour is it? I might be in the market for one

OrangeKnickers · 31/01/2009 21:22

I feel a bit naughty: It's an LX and it's black on one side and a really nice black and white pattern on the other side, with a matching detachable sleep hood. It's about a year old, and it good condt. I was trying to find a link but can't - will take a photo toms if you are interested. No worries if not.

OP posts:
Yeni · 01/02/2009 09:39

I would be interested to see a photo, thanks. How much would you want for it? Can you cross the straps over?

OrangeKnickers · 01/02/2009 21:59

I guess I'd like £40 as it hasn't been used that much and is about a year old, I haven't washed it (but it's not dirty). I also have the instructions. I'll take some photos tomorrow evening.

I haven't ever crossed the straps over, and it doesn't say you can in the instructions. Mind you, you easily could if you wanted. I just got it out and it is a lovely thing.

I am in London and can meet in central london or post to you.

OP posts:
Yeni · 02/02/2009 14:40

Okay, thanks. I'd love to see the pictures. I'm not near London so it would have to be by post. Have you got CAT? I'm going to try to set it up now but I no longer have the email address I signed up to MN with so it might take me a while!

OrangeKnickers · 02/02/2009 20:01

not got CAT - I keep on meaning to but haven't got around to it. I put a photo on my profile page.

OP posts:
Yeni · 02/02/2009 20:53

Thanks - I quite like the pattern! I set up CAT today, but I don't know if you have to have it too, or if you just have to be set up to receive messages.

Yeni · 02/02/2009 21:03

I've figured it out and sent you a message.

OrangeKnickers · 03/02/2009 07:14

The pattern is lovely, when I got it out to take a photo I was impressed at how nice it is! I am at work so can't get to my homne account - will have a look tonight.

I've got a Manduca it's lovely. I've used it every day on DS who's 9 months but very tall (almost outgrown 12-18mth clothes to give you an idea). It's almost weightless wearing him iyswim.

Yeni · 03/02/2009 12:26

I like the look of the Manduca, although I've never seen one in real life. It looks great for newborns as well as older babies.
