Can you buy printing sets, like the one I had when I was a kid (John Bull for you oldies out there)

I used to have a John Bull printing set, which had a load of tiny rubber letters, which you would set into a wooden holder then press on an ink pad, and print out.

I seem to remember getting hugely frustrated at having to remember to set the words backwards, and they would ping out of the tweezers while you were trying to push them into the holder. I would also end up covered in ink. But I would be able to print something (usually just my name) dozens of times.

Now ds is 9 1/2 it's time he was subjected to the same frustrations.

I've checked amazon and ebay, can't find such a thing. Is it another toy killed by the electronic age?

I brought one last year from WHsmith.
It was about £8 and came with 2 sets of letters. Its good because the ink pad is internal.
It gives my 2 yo's thankyou cards a more professional touch I think!

This is what I have, hmm, maybe it was more than £8 then.

Ooooh that's very posh. I guess I could class that as an office expense.

I was looking for something more toy like, really though.

I wanted to relive my childhood and get a John Bull printing outfit (the tweezers ! the tiny rubber type !!) - saw one on ebay, but this was quite a while ago - didn't bid for it though

MaryAnn you and I both. I did see a vintage one on ebay too, but because it was a vintage one, I wouldn't buy it. I'm stunned no-one makes these today.

it's like bicycle repair kits - the cute tin,bit of chalk, powder and sticking patches - I never knew how to use them properly, but I feel huge nostalgia for these things. I think I used to get fed up with trying to fit the type backwards on to that stamp thing,so probably only ever printed my name !

The one I linked to comes with tweezers and little letters too. Its really not that posh.
