Buggies - Need advice please!

Haribosmummy · 27/01/2009 12:47

I want to get a new buggy but am clueless as to where to start, so hoping MN will offer some advice, please!

  1. Baby 8 months old - would like it to do him for quite a while...
  2. Want it for urban use only - I have a big old pram for walking the dog and a Quinny Zapp for travelling, so no need to be extremely durable or extremely lightweight IYSWIM...
  3. Want it to be small / flexible enough to manuovre around shops / cafes etc.,
  4. Want it to look cool...

What's my best bet?

thankyou!!!!

Not cool but I've got a Maclaren Quest and it is very functional. I think you can get it in some nice colours.

milkmoustache · 27/01/2009 13:13

I was just about to ask the same question!
My DS is 5 months so needs to lie down, and am looking for a buggy with solid wheels as I am sick to death of flat tyres.

smallorange · 27/01/2009 13:18

Get a Maclaren.

fairimum · 27/01/2009 13:20

I have a mamas and papas luna - is brilliant, turns on a penny, really light to push, lies totally flat (alot seemed to but foot rest didnt go up so their legs still bent!), DD is 8 months and sleeps really really well in it!
The new Luna mix (3wheel version) looks more cool but the Luna had £40 off when I got mine before christmas so that is why I got that one!) - they are pretty much the same other then 3 wheels and also you can buy different colour hoods etc for the mix (although they do fit on Luna too!) - I looked at so so many and decided on this one on recommendation on here and from friends I am SO glad I chose it!!

fairimum · 27/01/2009 13:22

I wanted a buggy with a bar handle and more sturdy than a maclaren (i know everyone loves them but I just dont like them!) - the Luna was much more sturdy (was important to us as have dogs, one being a loopy springer spaniel who tends to walk backwards into things!)

Haribosmummy · 27/01/2009 13:24

Ooh thanks guys!

Does any one have any experience of Mutsy? They look cool, but cheaper than Bugaboo or Stokke...

I'm looking at the internet now and like the look of the Urban Rider!

Hi Milkmoustace - it's a minefield isn't it?

What sort of budget are you looking at?

OP posts:
nicolamumof3 · 27/01/2009 13:30

i wouldn't want to use a mutsy around the shops? something with smaller wheels would be better.

I love my maclarens, just bought myself a dazzle but keep coming back to maclaren they are doing some really nice colours for 09 and lots of new seat liners coming out to funk them up!

Haribosmummy · 27/01/2009 13:37

Ooh... that's good advice...

WIll check out Maclarens...

thanks!

Maclarens are really good and do last. I have had a Mamas & Papas Ziko and they are very sturdy and look well made.

nicolamumof3 · 27/01/2009 13:41

yes zikos are lovely too, but expensive new.

Haribosmummy · 27/01/2009 13:42

I have a Mamas and Papas Pliko, which I use for walking the dog, but I don't want another one, cos I think they are too big - I would like something smaller and a bit funkier!

OP posts:
nicolamumof3 · 27/01/2009 13:45

ziko is much smaller than the pliko?
here

claire002 · 27/01/2009 13:47

I second/third/fourth the maclaren. We've got the techno, which reclines fully for a sleep, it fits through the tiniest gaps when people have parked their cars on the pavement, folds up to nothing (once you get the hang of it) and is really light. We've just got an old second hand double version for when number two rocks up. So they're easy to sell on second hand as well. Only downside is that every second buggy seems to be a maclaren!

nicolamumof3 · 27/01/2009 13:58

because they are sooooo good and reliable claire.
they now come with a lifetime warranty and lots of fab new colours for 2009

A word in the defense of the mutsys!!!They are superb, they have massive seat units so last for as long as you want...I have 2 urbans and 2 lite chassis which you can flick between....You can of course have baby facing too which I always favour....I would invest in a pair of front swivel wheels though as the rear steering can take a bit of getting used to and with the front swivels they turn a dream!!!

Haribosmummy · 27/01/2009 17:10

Urgh! It's a nightmare!

I went to see some today.

I didn't like the Mutsy at all - too big and the steering!!

I liked the Phil and Teds 3 wheeler, but it's SOOO long - I'd be crashing into everyone with that! And to move it up and down to recline is really difficult

There was a Maxi Cosi one Mura which I did really like and it can face forward and backwards and also was easy to recline, but DS seemed quite large in it and he's only 8 months old... I find it hard to believe it would still be OK for him in a couple of years!!!

I might go and look at the Mamas and Papas Sport Tundra tomorrow!

OP posts:
nicolamumof3 · 27/01/2009 17:12

why did you want a big three wheeler for urban use tho? i would think a small buggy would be sooo much easier?

Haribosmummy · 27/01/2009 17:19

I don't know what I want, Nicolamumof3! I was looking at them on the internet and I have no sense of perspective at all!!!

I just want something small, flexible, light enough to lift onto a train when I go into London, comfy for DS and cute to look at!!

In all honestly, I don't think the Mura is 1. light enough or 2. Big enough (though, again, maybe I'm wrong on that!!)

That's why I need expert advice!!!!

OP posts:
Haribosmummy · 27/01/2009 17:19

I'm basing my initial judgement on what the thing looks like, which is probably my fundamental mistake!

changer22 · 27/01/2009 17:22

Mountain Buggy Breeze. Shorter than any other 3 wheeler but reclines and is light but sturdy.

I came to them late - 3rd child - and wish I'd discovered before the other 229 I tried...

nicolamumof3 · 27/01/2009 17:24

but any three wheeler is going to be a)heavy (except for maybe a nipper or a mountain buggy) and b) bulky when folded. you won't go far wrong with a maclaren xt tbh.

milkmoustache · 27/01/2009 18:00

Does the maclaren xt let them sleep completely flat? DS is only 5 months so that is key...

milkmoustache · 27/01/2009 18:07

Have just looked at the maclaren website and (doh!) remembered that we already have crusty old triumph sitting in the porch. But does it really recline enough for them at 5 months?

nicolamumof3 · 27/01/2009 18:18

mmh i wouldnt want a triumph for that little as it has no leg rest their legs will just dangle. i prefer techno as has lots of features which are nice for newborn. seat is about 170degs so not quite flat but flat enought for a 5m old i would recommend either an xt or a quest.

milkmoustache · 27/01/2009 18:20

Their website claims it is OK from 3 months -but I'm just not sure! Love the idea of not having to shell out for another, though.
