Maths Training vs Brain Training on DS

I am really confused as to which game I should buy for my 8 year old as I would like her to concentrate on her maths but at the same time have some fun. Does Brain Training include a lot of maths or is it a mix of all subjects?
Any recommendations would be a huge help!

Thanks

brain training has at least 1 maths section (speed practice of mental maths) but lots of other stuff too. another game relies on you remembering how many people enter and leave a house at speed, and you have to work out how many people are left in gthe house at the end of the time - I find this really hard but my maths is reasonable!

Maths training is really boring. It's not interesting, fun, or challenging. I can't think who it would appeal to - either people struggling with maths or those who particularly excel in maths.

Don't buy it!

Brain training is great fun and highly addictive, but not a lot of maths in there.

BUT
OK we have brain training for the Wii. Almost ALL of the games in brain training will help you with Maths, it will develop that side of the brain help you think logically develop tha spatial (sp) awareness you need etc.

Have you tried Montessori stuff?

We've used Doman's maths training mathod since DS was born, and we found it really amazing. But I think it's more suitable for babies under 2 year old.

Maths training is really good for practising the basics like times tables and mental maths etc. dc find brain training a more frustrating as it relies on memory and speed for word tests.

DTD2 (7) loves maths....and loves maths training and brain training.

DTD1 hates maths and won't even look at Maths trainer....but likes brain training.

Brain training is a bit more varied....but I think that the only maths in it is add and subtract. Maths training does multiplication and division as well

I personally prefer Big Brain academy - but again doesn't include much maths.

Just gone through her 12x tables today (set homework, and no, I'm not being a pushy mum!)and she really does need to work on her maths!!!

Does Maths training have different levels?

I think so...you have to do teh early levels to unlock the later ones.

One of the most "thorough" levels is the old multiplication square. You can do a 10 by 1 grid, 10 by 3, 10 by 5 or 10 by 10 I think. I think the only downside is that I don't think you can specify which tables are in the smaller grids.

Not sure exactly what the other games are though. I have to say I haven't had a proper look.

yes there are different levels in the Daily test but you can practice basics like times tables, addition sentences, missing number, long multiplication etc whatever level you are at .
