BABY MOVEMENT MONITORS - ANYONE USED OTHER THAN ANGELCARE?

we used angel care for ds1 and want to get for ds2 but have noticed there are a few more on the market now inc a tommee tippee. I see the new angelcare now has rechargeable unit. How do these others compare to the angelcare which i could not fault other than having to keep turing the alarm off when you picked baby up but i doubt any others would not have this feature? I need to buy this morning as have come back from hosp and not happy without one as he has breathing probs

we have this one and have found it very usefully. neither of my babies had breathing problems but i'm a worrier and don't have great hearing.

if your baby does have breathing problems shouldn't your midwife/HV be organising a sort of industrial one that maybe also records if baby does stop breathing and for how long etc? don't know if such a thing exists but i'd be wanting a health professional to be involved too

yeah thats the other one i saw. he has bad reflux that has been affecting his breathing and has stopped a few times. have just been in hosp for a sleep study and come back with some meds that should sort it.

I cant decide between getting this on or the angelcare i had before.. i dont know anyomne that has tried both...are there any disadvantages to this one? I read a review that says the batteries dont last long in the parent unit, is that right? How long do they last? Could you leave it on charge say n the day downstairs and then take it up using batteries for the night?

I have a mam one. Its over 6 years old though so not sure if they still make them.

I have a Tommee Tippee one, although it is over 3 years old. I use it on the mains all the time. I've only used the parent unit on batteries once and they only lasted one night. I found the sensor pad was only useful in the moses basket and carrycot as when I moved DCs into the cot they rolled off the pad and set the alarm off.

We used a Respisense this time because you can use them in an Amby hammock and when cosleeping. More false alarms than the Angelcare (which we used with DS) though.

mad4mybaby · 23/01/2009 13:53

with the angelcare i think you have to put some mdf under the mattress for the pad to go on for a cot, is that right? I dont think we used ours in the cot, just moses basket. is this right? Do you think the fact that we have to have the cot on blocks will affect it? I mean more likely to roll off it?

We have an older version of the Tomee Tippee one as well as an Angelcare version. TBH, we found no difference betwee nthe two. I have used both in the moses basket and cot and had very few false alarms. HTH

I am using the current angelcare one in a cot on blocks due to reflux and its working fine. Haven't got a piece of MDF under mattress but it works fine. You can adjust sensitivity so even a tiny movement anywhere in cot sets it off. They shouldn't have to be "on" the pad all the time!

ellasmum1 do you think you could check the model number on yours for me? i need one asap and online they now do one that has a parents unit that is rechargeable and when i had one 2-3 years ago it wasnt rechargable. toys r us have one in stock that is model number ac5401 but the guy said it didnt say on the box that it had rechargable unit and i really want one that does...

I have an older style angelcare which I got from ebay for much cheaper than in the shops and it works fine.

ummadam · 23/01/2009 17:12

we have this one and have been very happy with it. I just need to work out how to get myself to sleep without now he's one and really too old to have a paranoid mummy.

Please do speak to your doctors for some reassurance and advice aswell though. We are both doctors and chose to use it for our peace of mind although after his initial breathing problems were sorted he was low risk.
