Can you recommend any baby bath product which will not dry my DD skin?

Hi, my baby is 15 days old and I used Johnson Johnson bath soap sample (I got in the hospital) once on her head and her skin got very dry. I am not planing to use bath soap very often but every now and then it is needed. I would prefer something free from chemicals and possibly moisturising. Can anybody recommend anything they liked which was mild enough for such a small baby please?

Forensica: She mainly has dry hands and the area where her nappy is on sides of her belly. I will see if the oil helps first.

bluesapphire - congratulations to you too..they are wonderful being so tiny aren't they

they sure are, thank you flower.
Yes what you describe is the same as my DS, and he also has it under chin/neck crease, under arms, and very flaky hands and feet.. use Olive Oil and then pop scratch mitts on and socks, don't worry it will soon go

skin salvation oil for the bath is absolutely amazing

Agree with whoever said not to bath such young babies, better for their skin if you dont.
Also second the Weleda vote, is very gentle/natural, though you really dont need any product until much later on, just water is fine for now.

you need to read ingredients. Johnsons are not as skin friendly as they make out. Most 'normal high street' products contain a chemical called sulfur laury sulfate or sls for short. It is a factory chemical used for cleaning industrial oils

2 brands easy to get hold of that don't contain this is Litte Me which you can get in Boots or Halo N Horns which Tesco stock.

this is brilliant

I just used to add a couple of drops of Weleda Calendula oil to the bathwater. I don't think I used soap/shampoo until DD was well over a year old. Small babies don't smell and don't really get dirty. Black knees from crawling came clean with just the oil.

i second oilatum too - don't bother with any soaps - and doublebase cream is a lovely moisturiser for eczema. Plain old olive oil is great for massaging your LO after a bath. also, you dont need to bath your baby every night, they dont get that dirty - i only bath my baby once a week as he has dry skin.

Bluesaphire - I got over the pain from stitches within 5 days and now it is 16 days and I am already stopping bleeding so feel like new and you will surely be fine soon too!

Thanks everybody for such fabulous links! I did not know about most of the natural products' sites I read here and will surely try some of them. J&J sample is in the bin now and olive oil is ready for use :-)
