Are icandy pears worth the money?

After agonizing over double buggies I've more or less decided on an icandy pear but am still at the cost.
This is my 4th (and prob last) baby and I love the idea of having both children facing me, and converting it to a single where the toddler can face me... so I'm thinking it is worth it.
Can anyone share some honest opinions (reassuring or otherwise) before I make the plunge and splurge the cash??

I used to tell mine she was like a pilot flying a plane up high, she loved it !
I would say don't buy the pram without the seat as they don't come up very often.
I am hopefully having a new baby in 2010 and have already bought a Bertini, having had the bugaboo's, Jane's, phil and teds etc nothing can beat it for walking and rear facing and a huge metal basket.

sorrento · 23/01/2009 13:52

I would pay up to £150 for that pram it looks fantastic, am only sorry you can't have mine but I need it lol.

Am just hoping they might send it to me Sorrento as I don't live near enough to pick it up... I'm really grateful for your advice as you've potentially saved me a lot of money (and grief) - can I send you a virtual bunch of flowers?

I've had a babydan pram seat it was fine. You just need to make sure the pram is hard bodied enough to take it.

sorrento · 23/01/2009 14:48

Ah thank you
In the past I've just asked them which day my courier can pick the item up after I've won the auction, you can get big boxes from mothercare or a local baby shop to put the pram in, it's no bother for them really.
The only thing with the baby dan is I think it can only be used whilst the little baby is in the carrycot, I don't think it can be used with a seat unit, but I might be wrong.

mersmam · 23/01/2009 14:50

Thanks cargirl? I noticed it said that it would not fit on combinations, so I take it it would not be OK for this: www.mothercare.com/b/195504031/ref=sc_iw_c_1_0_42768041_1
As it just has a carrycot?

(hopes dashed - I'd love one of these I was getting a single!!)

actually I think it would because it would wrap itself around the frame bit which is solid. I would buy the seat and take it to mothercare to try out.

If you end up not using the pram seat you would be able to sell it/return it and not loose out much money.

mersmam · 23/01/2009 14:54

Sorrento - can you recommend a courier? Have never sent my own to someone else before.

I need to think a bit now - so many options!!! To overload me further an icandy pear has just come up locally on ebay for £200 less than I would pay new - finishing in a few days... double buggy overload!!

sorrento · 23/01/2009 15:38

I've always used DHL, but parcels to go are good and cheap too, just check the insurance.
I've sent buggy's in bin bags and they've been absolutely fine.
For me the pear is good for people with twins who want to put 2 maxi cosy's on, anybody who is pushing a toddler and newborn needs air tyers and good suspension I would say.

mersmam · 23/01/2009 15:47

Just a quick question for those of you who have used toddler seats - what do you do if it's raining?
I know that some of the emmaljungas come with raincovers which go over the toddler seat... but the bertini I've seen on ebay doesn't and neither does the seperate toddler seat (cargirl have you found a raincover that can be used with it?)

Thanks for the courier advice sorrento!

I didn't bother with the raincover, it was the size of a small greenhouse and never stayed upright anyway.
I gave the toddler an umbrella or pulled her hood up and walked faster lol

CarGirl · 23/01/2009 17:31

someone is selling a mamas & papas duette on the for sale board, 2 full proper size seat units can be individually forward or rear facing, you could a carrycot unit for it as well?

Hi i'm not sure if this will get to you or not but worth a try. i googled icandy pear and your question came up. I'm currently in same dilema as you were when you posted this. Have an 18 month old and another on way. My son will be 21 months when no2 arrives and cannot decide between icandy peach or pear i can't recall which one it is and the phil n teds. your post had alot of questions i have and i wondered if you had bought the pear and what you thought. they are v expensive and i found quite when i had a demo but have also read so many bad reviews as well as good on p&t. just wondered what your outcome was?

thanks

KELLY8 · 14/07/2010 21:44
