I use my george foreman and it makes delish toasties!!.........and paninies and wraps and anything else I can squeeze into it!!

savoycabbage · 18/01/2009 23:06

I have got one where you pop out the plates and put them in the dishwasher. Otherwise I would never use it.

uberalice · 19/01/2009 00:15

Ditto george foreman. It's not just a sandwich toaster, you can use it for other things too.

PinkFurryStripeyTiger · 19/01/2009 00:26

We've got some toast pockets that go in the toaster. They work very well. MIL gave us them-possibly a Lakeland thing?

MaggsS · 19/01/2009 06:32

Oh thanks everyone.

Is the george forman expensive?

we've got a panini maker which we use very often - more than the sandwich maker which is languishing in the loft. You don't have to use butter so they are more healthy

ours is a John Lewis brand

mogs0 · 19/01/2009 16:03

I started off with a baby george that cost about £15. I upgraded a couple of years ago to the next size (I think it's a Junior!!) and iirc it cost about £25. They are often discounted in Argos or at the supermarkets.

ChopsTheDuck · 19/01/2009 16:05

i'd go for a panini toaster too. We use it for sarnies, paninis, toasted ciabatta rolls all sorts, and like tommy says you don't need butter neither. We've jsut got a cheapy one from argos and it's still goigng strong after about three years or so.

CruelAndUnusualParenting · 20/01/2009 19:23

Tefal Avanti.

TsarChasm · 20/01/2009 19:25

I can recoommend toasty bags. They are brill.

n5rje · 20/01/2009 19:30

If you want something really cheap and cheerful I bought a Tesco value one for about £4 because I was fed up with the expensive ones breaking and its lasted for ages. It doesn't do anything but make a toastie but for the price its brilliant

curlygal · 20/01/2009 19:30

definitely go with a george. I've had the smallest one for years and it is great.

I recently bought the daisy toastie maker as it was Half price (allegedly but think I was conned) and because Jamie Oliver recommends it in one of his books utter crappola

It's languishing on top of the cupboards while George is pressed into action at least once a week.

What else can you cook in your george? I only ever make cheese and tomato toasties.

Tillyscoutsmum · 20/01/2009 19:32

We've got a George.... also great for making potato waffle type things with leftover mash (DD is a potato fiend )

mogs0 · 20/01/2009 19:38

I cook chicken, fish (breaded and normal), sausages (though it's hard to clean after), bacon, cheese and pickle wraps (really yummy!!), paninis, ciabatta, pitta bread. Infact, any type of bread usually goes in mine!!

CountessDracula · 20/01/2009 19:39

second a panini maker or a george
I hate those things that make greasy pockets of scalding cheese

CruelAndUnusualParenting · 21/01/2009 09:30

Oops. Missed that it was a sandwich toaster you wanted. Obviously the Tefal Avanti doesn't fit that bill.

wintercitylover · 21/01/2009 13:55

sorry being a bit dumb here but are you using a standard George Foreman grill to make toasties.

Because I took a look at Argos and he does such things a bun warmer (what's that) and other more niche appliances.

I am buying one for work so we can toast our sandwiches.
