Midsleeper / Cabin beds...

...any thoughts?

What age did you put your DC in one?

Any safety concerns?

Any recommendations?

I'm thinking about a new bed for DD1 when she moves from her converted cotbed. Not convinced about toddler beds and could use the storage as her room isn't that big. By the time we get sorted she will be 3 years +.

Thanks.

My son has one.. wouldn't have had any qualms about putting him in one at the age of 3.. its only a low one though only about as high as a divan bed anyway.. but i love the storage space.

Well, when i don't put my hand in it and find sweet wrappers i like it better

ds went into his when he was about 2.5. We started off with it as a normal bed at low level and then last Christmas we put it up so that he could put his large toys underneath. He was about 2.9 when it went up to be a mid height sleeper. We weren't planning on putting it up so early but we had nowhere else to put the toys! He hasn't had any problems with it at all - in fact dp was talking about putting it up again into high level for yet more storage or a second bed underneath!

we have a nice one from argos which my ds went in at about age 5, but it's small, and has an enclosure round the top (like a tent) and he simply couldn't fall out of it, as there are effectively wooden bars to keep him in. he loves it and won't give it up even though he's 9 and much too big really... i'll see if i can find a pic.

You can't lie down and read a story to them as easily.

bodiddly · 10/01/2009 15:24

I agree ggirl ... we get ds ready for bed and have stories on our bed to avoid this issue!

notbusta · 10/01/2009 15:36

I climb into DS's to ready stories - and then have to come down the attached slide to get out! My only issue with it is that DS (who is 3.4 and potty trained) can't get out by himself in the night to go to the loo.

Thanks for all your thoughts and taking the time to reply.

Books and so stories are downstairs in our house and tend to be read on the sofa before climbing the stairs to bath and bed.

Night toileting is an issue I hadn't considered...DD1 is in nappies O/n at present and so maybe by the time we get the bed sorted out she will be able to manage...? Needs some thought.

ds1 has been in a midsleeper since just before he was 3.
we have a thuka one which we chose because:

1.) you can get a "shorty" version
2.) it's flexible. we can turn it into a full-size single. a regular low bed, bunk beds or a high sleeper.
3.) it's very well made and super sturdy.
4.) we got it with a slanting ladder to make it easier for him to climb in/out
