Ikea?

ikea do very long curtains but they are not usually lined.

nula · 09/01/2009 22:12

They also need to be of a decent weight.
Do ikea do heavy fabrics?

yes i think ikea do heavy fabrics, you could also try bhs and john lewis.

Ikea is one of the few places that do long ready made curtains - I think Habitat may do them as well.

I have bought curtains from Ikea and added my own blackout linings, which transforms them into quite luxurious heavyweight curtains. If you are not into sewing, you can buy ready made linings which you attach to the back with curtain hooks.

I've also seen some people who have bought 2 different colours of Ikea velvet curtains, and sewn them together, back to back, so that you have double weight curtains, with different colours on the front & back, IYSWIM? It looked pretty good.

Alternatively, there are some websites if you google 'long ready made curtains' which do 108" readymade lengths, but I have found them to be massively expensive.

Finally, if you have someone who is pretty good with a sewing machine, you could buy ones with a 72" drop, and buy an extra pair, which you can cut up and add a faux hem at the bottom. We did this for our bedroom curtains, and it looks great, because it looks like you have a really deep hem, and so therefore quite luxurious - but I would recommend you get someone to do it professionally (I think we were charged £10 - 15 per curtain?), and it really depends on the fabric as well.

IKEA curtains OK though many of them tab or slot top which I don't particularly like.

B&Q esp the big warehouse stores have a good range of long curtains but not sure how long they go up to.

Not horribly expensive to have curtains made, Terrysfabric.co.uk do mail order. I just had some made by a friend of a friend with fabric I bought really cheaply from ebay and bought my own lining. The actual making up was about 100 quid (but for three pairs of 7 ft lined curtains)

Wilf, I dislike tab & slot top, but I usually cut this off and sew my own pencil tape to the top (when I am doing the lining). Because they are 3m long, there is still enough scope to do this for 9ft curtains.

(gosh, I sound very crafty, don't I? - I'm not really)

I got some lovely 3 metre lined curtains from Ikea with a 'normal' top (i.e. pleated, not tab). Good quality and about £40 a pair.

ladies I cannot thank you enough for the IKEA tip.
Went tonight and was astonished at the good quality and prices.

I bought the same ones as Molesworth by the sound of things. They are beautiful, lined, well made and block out all the light from outside - all for about £40 !

THANKS THANKS THANKSXXX
ILOVE MUMSNET!

ooh

are they black with a leaf design and a light green lining?

I love my curtains

nula · 12/01/2009 23:18

No a fab deep raspbery colour - same range as yours - my 5 yo son wants yours for his bedroom!

It is mildly worrying how happy I am with them . My life is clearly very dull!
