What the devil is memory foam?

I will prob get a king size divan.

What to look for ? Is more expensive worth it?

what about different spring types?
When did this get so complicated?

Will watch with interest - we're also looking to buy as well...

So far we're thinking drawer divan, king size with memory foam and medium price range (silent night/sealy)

this is the cheapest website I've found so far

oo thanks.
Also google Dreams beds which have a sale ending Monday

Dreams is good to go and have a look at the beds in real life, if you want. The website is cheaper (and they'll beat any other price by £15). We ordered dsd's bed from them last year and they were great.

BTW - no idea what memory foam is either but I just liked the look of it

anyone else?

Right - th ememory foam thing started with a company called Tempur, who, if blurb is to be believed, started marketing the stuff that NASA developed for beds in space to the domestic market. It used to be marketed as an orthopaedic aid, but they have now changed their slant to hte luxury end of the market. They are expensive, but IMHO their memory foam bed is better and more comfortable than other ones that I have slept on (Dreams/silentnight).

Foam feels weird when you first sleep on it because it has no bounce. You slightly sink into it like you sink into a feather pillow but with much more resistance. The idea is that it mooulds to hte natural shape of your spine, giving a more naturally supported sleeping position.

FWIW, my DH who has serious, long standing back problems has had vastly imrpoved back health since we got one, and if you have a back problem that requires a firm bed, I find the foam more compfortable than a very hard mattress.

The skinny - we splashed out on a whole foam mattress but I am pretty sure (in retrospect) you would achieve the same effect with the maatress topper which is 6 inches thick and a fraction of the cost. I love my foam bed, but a friend of mine has an absolute top quality old-fashioned sprung mattress and it is still the most comfportbale thing I have ever slept on.

PS in answre to your question, its called memoryt foam as it moulds to fit your body but then recovers its shape again when it is no longer being compressed by body weight. It is constructed of tiny little airfilled collapsible cells, like spongy honeycombs, I believe.

another vote for warren evans for bed frames (haven't tried their mattresses)

We have a Warren Evans mattress too, very comfy...we probably should buy a new one though as it's very old now..
