Had a car smush and need to replace the dude's seat.

He needs a full harness (escapes), but want it to convert to booster etc in future. Might as well get slim if poss

Subject is too exciting for me .
Loving 'smush' though .

Flamespar · 08/01/2009 20:42

what weight is he and what was his last seat?

Flamespar · 08/01/2009 20:53

like that but 2 yrs older so less "neat" looking in design, but that sort of chunky.

He is about the same size as an 18/24 month old

I didn't even know you could convert some of them to booster seats tbh.
Is that important- won't you just hand it on to Flamenoob?

We have a Maxi Cosi Priori xp, so that is the only one I know about, sorry- it's a good seat, and has lasted DD 2 years now- still going strong, and looking good.

differentID · 08/01/2009 22:25

It finally loaded for me!
That was what I was going to suggest.

Flamespar · 09/01/2009 07:56

Is that seriously as slim as you can get?

Prefer to keep one seat all the way through tbh EPPM

we have the Evolva 123 Ultra - it's the safest of the bunch but it ain't slim.
Kiddicare have very cheap Nania 1-2-3 seats (thus) which look pretty slim

differentID · 09/01/2009 16:46

Flame, I would go with the Britax- I know it's not slim, but it has protective areas next to your ds thighs which slimmer models won't have, the straps have wide protectors which stop your little Houdini by the sounds of it and they have the safe-strap guide so you know that it's tight enough on him.

TBH the 5 point harness ones that convert to boosters do not get such good safety ratings...seeing as the insurance company will be paying I would go for the best one you can get for this age - whcih is without a doubt the most appropriate option for now (which will probably be about £160+ - Maxi cosi or something).

Then when he is big enough to go into a 3 point harness which can convert to a booster...probably in a couple of years. This will set you back about £40-60ish at a guess.

I have the Nania Newfix. I'm using it with the harness at the moment. Ds1 is nearly 4 but not heavy enough to use the car's seatbelt. And I needed it as slim as poss - those Evolvas are wide. I was a bit worried about the quality of something this cheap but I can't fault it.

fruitful · 09/01/2009 17:00

x-posted. . I did hunt for safety reports before I bought it - couldn't find anything negative.

SlightlyMadScientist · 09/01/2009 17:02

Everyone has to buy to their budget (and wouldn't normally criticise)....but seeing as the insurance company will (or at least should) be paying for this I would not go for a compromise on safety for the sake of price.

SlightlyMadScientist · 09/01/2009 17:10

Sorry fruitful...now I have xposted.

I don't think I have seen anything specifically negative...but it does come in the lower half of the table when looking at the Which results...so when ranked with others it is poor IYSWIM. Having said that they don't review the 1-2-3 seat - it is a different model.

It is also worth noting that 2 of teh 5 worst buys in Which are teh 5 point harness - booster convertibles that you are talking about.

MadScientist - I agree. The seat I have is the only seat that I could buy that would fit. The alternative to a converting one, was to put ds1 in a booster before he was heavy enough. The price was a nice bonus, given that there was no choice.

Lol about £50 extra for pink-with-hearts-on. Fabric paints, anyone?

Flamespar · 09/01/2009 18:36

I don't have £150 odd though - I know it will come back eventually, but when I don't have the money now, then it is a no-go.

Having one that converts helps with other children etc too.

Good reports on Nania from a friend, but bad from you

My brain isn't up to this atm. I am going to give up for the time, we are borrowing mum's (britax trio, which it turns out is what mine is but slightly different models).

Flame what I was saying is that the safety opinions are poor-mediocre.

They do get good ratings from a usability POV...

Flamespar · 09/01/2009 19:11

It was a safety obsessed friend iyswim, hence the confusion.

It wasn't meant as a suspect more a confused and overwhelmed one.

OP posts:
SlightlyMadScientist · 09/01/2009 19:18

Thats OK.

Like I also say - the seat that was reviewed on Which was also a different seat - a plain high back booster. it got 3/5 stars for safety.

What I also said at one point was that it comes lower when you rank a load of seats - so I would chose one higher on the list - especially as the insurance would cover it (although I take your point about the initial outlay). It certainly wasn't on their list to avoid.

So relatively speaking - there are a lots whcih are better....but there also a few whcih are much much worse.

Flamespar · 09/01/2009 19:21

lol - i think tomorrow it will make sense Thank you.

Atm I am struggling with more than "Bibble"
