I am looking at buying one of these. The DC16 apparently only lasts 6 minutes before it needs recharging - is this usual? very annoying when using? Can anyone with a hand held cleaner recommend theirs? Many thanks

Not sure that this is the sort of thing you're looking for but I bought a proline 'dustbuster' from Comet for only £8.99 and it's absolutely brilliant - goes for ages before needing recharging, and cheap as... dirt!!

can u hoover a hall carpet with it? i.e. do an inbetween big hoovers pick up the bits clean?

i have a Dyson handheld - frankly the old hoover dustbuster I had did as good a job but this was a freebie and i do love it! it looks very macho. It's ok for picking up bits but not ok for sweeps of carpet unless you want to spend a lot of time on you knees. it's quite heavy too. I wouldn't buy one with my own money.

plumandolive · 08/01/2009 12:20

We had one of these, and I didn't really rate it.
The suction wasn't brill, the charge ran out quickly, and TBH, I prefered the ordinary hoover...
...which has now broken( for the fourth time) so we're getting a new one- it's on the way)
this is the thread about why we chose a miele!

philmassive · 08/01/2009 13:33

The £8.99 job has got a lot of suction and it will easily pick up all the crumbs and bits from dinner. I can't recommend it enough. We do our little hall with it and it's great for just going round and picking up bits and bobs (like the needles off the Christmas Tree, that sort of thing)

I wouldn't spend out a fortune on anything else until you've tried one of these!

phil do you think it would be good for the car?

wannaBe · 08/01/2009 13:39

£8? could I do the stairs with it?

Had been angling to buy a dyson handheld one but tbh for £120 I couldn't really justify it just to hoover the stairs/backs of the sofas where the cats drop their fur.

ChopsTheDuck · 08/01/2009 13:41

dc16 is good in terms of suction/pickup but the battery on it is chronic. Even when new I couldnt do all of my car in one go, and now it cuts out after about 20 seconds. I wouldn't recomend it.

eeek....they don't sell the dustbuster at comet anymore.

stressed2007 · 09/01/2009 09:18

anyone know somewhere they still sell these? Thanks

FourArms · 09/01/2009 09:26

I've got the Dyson one. I love it, and feel it was worth the £100 I paid for it. Six minutes is a long time, but if I'm doing a specific job (e.g. car) I do charge it first. I tend to use it for corners, crumbs on side, stairs, skirting board... and my upright Dyson for general hoovering. I used a friends more basic one, and found it didn't have enough suction to get all the bits from corners, in the carseat creases etc.

dietstartstomorrow · 09/01/2009 09:30

I was thinking of getting the DC16, but have been put of by the 6 minute thing.

I have a roomba for most hoovering, but just need something for the stairs, and cobwebs etc.

I love my Dyson dustbuster thing with a passion. With three small children under three (two of whom eat anything they find on the carpet) it is a lifesaver.

I use it for doing the whole sitting / dining area (just roughly, getting the big crumbs / bits of leaf / mud etc up) at least once or twice daily. Also good for stairs / edges of rooms / corners etc.

Think it lasts longer than 6 mins but can't be sure.

FourArms · 09/01/2009 09:39

6 minutes would be fine for your stairs. It's got an on off trigger (like a water gun) so you only have it switched on when you actually want the suction.

stressed2007 · 09/01/2009 10:35

yes but others have said it lasts only 3 mins!
