Dd has broken one of the slats on her bed, by jumping on it in the past, she also needs a new mattress, can you buy slats on their own or should I buy a bed

Am not that keen on buying a bed as dd wants a cabin bed or similar, where we are at the moment has a sloping ceiling which limits what she can have. We are renting until we sell our house and may even be leaving our rental soon. So if I were to buy a bed now it would be a normal single bed, which tbh I would prefer.

Money while no longer critical is still tight so would it be cheaper to buy slats and a mattress or should I just get a bed?

Just buy a piece of wood the right thickness from Travis Perkins, Wickes or B&Q (TP has widest range of wood) and cut it to the right length or get the fellers in the shop to do it for you.

BTW I regret getting cabin beds. They're so unhomely and very hard to make. You can't kiss them goodnight either and who wants to get down a ladder in the morning or up one at night.

I'm slowly changing the Stompa high sleepers I bought so enthusiastically a year or so ago.

I agree spidermama I dont want one either but she has gone from a huge double bedroom in our old house to a small room here and at Southern properry prices I doubt when we buy a house it will be much bigger so I think that is why she wants one. Of course as the adult it is my decision but unfortunately dp agrees with dd.

WE have already moved a slat and then moved one along, she was friends with some boys up the road and we caught the three of them jumping on it and being a cheap argos bed it was not up to it. She has had the bed for 8 years, although I had my bed for about 20 years as a kid. I think dp was hoping to get some better slats
Her mattress is also a crap one that we bought when she was still wetting the bed and have never replaced it.

I will suggest a bit of wood to dp.

We were also worried as now that we live somewhere nice we have a lot of guests who sleep in dd bed, so thought we should upgrade the bed so to speak.

Any mattress recommendations?

have decided to get her a new mattress and dp will fix the bed. Sends the message that we dont replace things just because you break them but hopefully she can still sleep comfortably.
