Will I find a ring sling useful?

I'm not a babywearer by any stretch of the imagination, but a friend has offered to sell me one of her vast collection of ring slings...

DS is 16 weeks, and I'm thinking that the sling might be useful for:

  • trips into town when I want to go into shops without lifts (I won't be parted from my pram the rest of the time!)
  • when he's starting to toddle, so I can stuff it in a bag and if we go out for a short walk and gets knackered I can carry him on my hip (can I do this with a ring sling?)
  • pottering around the house when he's in a clingy mood, which seems to happen about once a week, and I can't put him down.
  • if I have another, for BFing the new one while entertaining DS - can I BF in a ring sling?

Sorry, I know nothing about slings and it wouldn't normally occur to me, but friend is selling some of her vast vast collection of lovely ring slings, all in gorgeous fabrics (have no idea what makes they are, but many different ones I think).

does anyone have any ideas whether it'll be useful for the things I'm thinking of, or a complete waste of time?

Yes to them all. Though I struggled with trips to town with a sling if I had to carry groceries also.
Mine was mostly used in Costco!!

yes you can bf in a ring sling, and they are fab. I used mine loads with DS until he was about 18 months old, and just too heavy to carry on one shoulder (and he is big)

pmsl ring sling - sounds like something to kep your piles from dropping out any further!

I wouldn't carry for any distance in a ring sling, but IMO they're ideal for newborns, particularly BF and great for a bit of support for hip carrying a toddler.

Might go for it if she has a cheap one then and DS takes to it when we have a practice run.

DS not exactly a newborn, but I'm not looking at it for hours of daily use, more the odd hour here or there a few times a week.

Ring sling for labour induced piles also required...

I use ring slings for 4 year olds sometimes. I love them! Much better than a pushchair, but then I hate pushchairs full stop.
