Are the pop up ones any good or should I stick to the standard bulky one??

Thanks.

WHat about a tent-style one? They are as light as the pop-ups but bigger.
The pop-up ones are quite small and are unlikely to last very long - they say 18months I think. You might then end up having to buy another to last until your dc can sleep in a bed.

Had a truly crap one - OneLife? It was appalling. It popped up fine, but it was impossible to get back into the sack thing.

Plus the pop ones only last until they can sit up...

Personally I don't think there is anything "travel" about the normal travel cots, unless you are built like the incredible hulk.

We bought one of these
www.amazon.co.uk/Koo-Di-KD009-Pop-Up-Bubble-Cot/dp/B000NWIU5C/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1230585309&sr=1 -3
and it's fabulous.

Actually I lie, this is the one we bought

normal travel cots are great but they weigh the same as a small elephant.

I think you can get some with wheels that allow you to pull them along in their little case which makes them easier to move around from your car to the hotel or wherever.

I loved mine, it has lasted me 6 years and 2 babies. It was Mothercare's own with a bassinet insert which was good (I used this in my own bedroom when I had a c section)

I don't like the pop up ones just because you are lying your child on the floor.

Thanks everyone. I will have a look at the Amazon ones.

I am put off of the normal style ones because they are so heavy and Im not sure where we would store it when not in use.

Good idea though about getting one on wheels.

standard defo will last alot longer, i couldn't imagine a pop up cot being any good for a sitting or mobile baby? we have had our for 10yrs and 3 babies we bought a travel cot mattress for ds2 from toys r us which has made it just as comfy as their normal bed!

Libralovesbiscuits1975 · 30/12/2008 14:02

I think it really depends on how you are going to travel. I occasionally go up to London by train for the night, there is absolutely no way I could lug a normal travel cot with me along with the baby and the pushchair, even if I am in the car if it was just me I would struggle with a normal travel cot.

jimbotri · 03/01/2009 15:45

I agree it depends , If you have room in the car then a normal one is probably the best option , we used a normal mothercare one when holidaying in the UK. When we finally got brave enough to travel abroad we bought a little life tent type one as they only weigh a few pounds and do not take up much room. We the used it everywhere we went

threetinytots · 03/01/2009 16:04

We have a nomad travel bed which has been by far the easiest travel cot we have had. It takes up no space at all in the car(in fact ours lives in the car most of the time as dd2 hates the standard travel cot at my mums). We have the self inflating mattress that is comfy and rolls up very small. The sleeping bag is great for older babies and when they are younger the top can be zipped off so you are just left with a nice cosy liner. It toggles to the tent too so it won't move.

We never had one. We had a small roll up futon that just went on the floor wherever we happened to be. Light, cheap, comfortable and versatile.
