Trousers for solid boys - Gap not doing 'husky' fit any more - where to look?

Ds is 9.5, tall and big - so Gap's "regular" age 13 is OK for length, but round the middle even the adjustable waist versions leave barely enough room. Their "husky" fit was of course perfect, but apparently not being carried in UK shops at the moment.

Where else should I try?

Boden give actual garment measurements on their website, which at least allow you to pre-screen. Not everything fits my solid 9 year old, but there is usually something suitable.

Do you have any friends or family in the US who could send stuff on to you?

Otherwise, I shall be watching all other replies with interest.

what about the next plus fit? i don't know myself, as i have the opposite problems ds1 and 2 both skinny minnies but ds3 is set to be alot more solid by the looks of things!

Bink · 29/12/2008 19:52

Brilliant, thank you! - will try Next & Boden, & will pass on any other discoveries. H&M can be good, but they don't always do adjustable waists. And tracksuits are always fine, but I don't want ds living in trackies - I like him in cords, at least sometimes.

(PS though, a recommendation: for school trousers, M&S adjustable waist pleat-front style are just PERFECT for ds-shaped lads)

BHS does a bigger fit as well

Bink, the much-linked-to Jako-O do trousers in a range of fits and styles, including specifically a 'husky' range, assuming you're getting their website in English. They ship v. efficiently to the UK and I've always found the quality good, though of course the exchange rate isn't exactly favourable atm. Worth bearing in mind as a stand-by though?

We have the reverse situation with my ds -- a choice between appropriate length and very saggy waist, or good fit round the waist and bum but flapping round his ankles at the hems.

Which does make one wonder who this legendary 'average child' is for whom clothes are designed...

I just adore the Jako-O patter style "Basic jeans that are comfy for tummies" - yes I will try those too.

We did get some lovely top-half items in our search today - waffle cotton long-sleeve t-shirts from Gap down from £9.50 to £3.50, which dh and I both think we will just have, thank you (and are not far off fitting us both ), and a neon-blue recycled fleece from H&M which ds observed was "the colour of toothpaste, and I'll have it, please"

Hi Bink!

I suspect the Gap 'Husky' sizing is still available here in the US. If you want to order from the Gap US site, and have them ship to my home address here, will be happy to ship on to you.

It is perhaps a convoluted way of getting trousers for your ds, but if you've found something that you both like, am happy to assist. My email address is unchanged, but do post here if you've not got it any longer (don't think my CAT is current).

EB, thank you, as always.
I think I have your email and I am going to look for it now!
