Cupcake stand Vs ordinary cake stand

Right ladies....all this talk about cake stands etc....I really want one of these but should I get this rather than a regular cake stand??
I do tend to make cupcakes/muffins rather than cakes so I do think that this cupcake stand will make my cakes look extra stunning (and towards making my life complete )!!

I think I've already decided but need to convince DH!!

Ive always wanted one of these, think they look so pretty!!
So id say yes!!!

SoupDragon · 29/12/2008 17:02

I think it looks hideous!

Fivesetsofschoolfees · 29/12/2008 17:03

I think they look great, but it would be just one more thing to store.

I think they sell them in Lakeland, btw.

SoupDragon · 29/12/2008 17:08

To clarify: I think it looks OK when full but would look ridiculous with gaps. An ordinary cake plate looks fine whether full or (as is more usual) mostly only holding crumbs.

SoupDragon · 29/12/2008 17:10

this style is far more attractive IMO, although a china version would be even better

Fivesetsofschoolfees · 29/12/2008 17:11

I agree with that view, Soupdragon. When I make cupcakes or muffins, they don't hang around for long.

But I think they do look fun when they are full. I don't think I would want to pay £30 though for one.

SoupDragon · 29/12/2008 17:13

I'm tempted by this one

XmasPud · 29/12/2008 17:17

oooh I really like the last link SoupDragon.
I have a similar cream/off white china stand with lacey bits but is only one tier - perfect for a large cake. Always been tempted by the two and three tier ones. Storage issue holds me back..

SoupDragon · 29/12/2008 17:19

I assume it packs flat and you have to screw the upright posts in to use it.

goingfor3 · 29/12/2008 17:29

This one is cheaper than the wilton one and will probably be just as good.

oh no!! I thought I'd decided but I see what you mean....mmmm...now swaying towards the tiered cake stand - thanks ladies

I much prefer one like the link soupdragon posted. Like Bloss said it will make it more versatile and more likely to get more use out of it.

Haribolicious · 30/12/2008 18:30

Yes, I think Soup and bloss are right....as the next dilemna for the cupcake stand would have been 'which size' as sometimes I'd do 2 batches but other times I might do just 1 or even 3, depending on the number of people!!
A tiered cakestand does make more sense - thanks ladies for making me see sense
I'm on a Whittard hunt tomorrow

I'm sold....any ideas where I can get a 3 tiered cake stand tomorrow? John Lewis maybe? Got a new year's eve party and they would look cool on a stand!!
