it is a stain remover and a softner so can be added to both spaces and reduces the anmount of powder required.

I use soap nuts as it's a natural product & a very small amount of bio powder. Soap nuts work by softening the water so you don't really need powder at all but I just use a very very small amount instead, it also means you don't need to use conditioner.

Do you also find bio better than non bio sleighirl.

Do soapnuts clean as good as powder? Where can you buy soap nuts from? Are they expensive compared to powder?

Soap nuts are cheap, you can buy them off ebay and get a sample FFp from www.inasoapnutshell.com/index.html

I have absolute rock hard Thames Valley Water and I use soap nuts & 1/4 of the recommended powder on my whites & lights really just to shift the stains that children manage to produce don't need to bother with bedding & darks though IYSWIM.

I've found with bio powder I need less to get the same results which then means it get rinsed out better and causes less irritation. Also I put the powder in the drum of my machine not the drawer otherwise the tubes tend to get blocked up and actually the rinse cycle is still full of detergent IYSWIM. You should also do an occasional hot wash to clean out your machine too for this reason.

I'm so glad I started this thread, I've found out loads of really helpfuland useful information about dealing wih excema.

I had never considered changing powder before as I thought Fairy was harmless, I'm goin to try soap nuts, I like the idea of them being a natural product.

I'd never considered buying a bio washing powder eiher, I have no idea about which one to ge and I am scared of getting a bad reaction. But I guess the only way to know is to try them.

Tomorrow I will do a hot wash and put powder in the actual drum. And I can always use white vinegar for a tough stain.

I'm very thankful for all the great advice

However much powder you use start halving it now, you really don't need as much as they say, especially if it goes straight in the drum. Saves you money too! Alot of this I learnt from using washable nappies tbh.

I'll do that SleighGirl.

Just ordered my free sample of soap nuts

I once spoke to someone at Proctor and Gamble who told me non-bio is a bit of a con. Apparently it's only made for the UK market - we are A Bit Odd in believing there's anything significantly different.

He reckoned it's not the enzymes in bio that cause reactions, it's other ingredients. So definitely worth trying bio as well as non-bio and just finding out which product suits.
