Organic Bathing Products vs Non-Organic Branf

Can anyone advise me on the difference between using organic products versus the Johnson & Johnson's baby range? Are there any advantages? Is using a non-organic brand more likely to result in problematic skin conditions?

most high street brands (including J & J) shampoos, shower gels, bubble baths etc have an ingredient called sodium lauryl sulfate which is an anionic surfactant that is used in industrial products including engine degreasers and floor cleaners. [nice]

It helps foam the product but is extremely drying on the skin especially a childs.

personally I use no products that contain SLS (They are there if you look!) If it's for a child i suggest something like 'little me' range which is available in Boots or 'halo n horns' which you can now get in Tesco. or Waitrose have fab range of skin friendly products for both adult and child. I use Jason

The Weleda baby range is lovely and doesn't contain any nasties either. Smells good too!

A lot of "organic" brands do contain SLS though, it is how they make the foam and iirc makes it a bit thicker (so more "luxurious").

Thus being organic is a guarentee of nothing but that they saw you coming. Look at the ingredients. SLS also goes under a few other names.

Incidentally, I have found it in Neals Yard Stuff. The woman working there said it was ok because it was "natural" (rolls eyes). The thing is, it was in a potential present for my brother who really does have problems with it.

I don't think it is especially likely to cause future dermatological problems though, I don't think there is any known link between using it on babies and later problems.

Thanks for your advice - very helpful. One less thing to think about when I can't get back to sleep at 4.30am!! (due in 9 days...)
