I want to spruce up an old chest of draws and wondered what was the best brand of paint to use. I know Farrow and Ball is s'posed to be good but I was hoping for something a little less pricey! Any ideas please?

Any eggshell paint will be great on furniture. if you sand to give it a key, slop some undercoat on then your top coat.

Homebase do a good satinwood in white - not sure if they do it in other colours. Best just to get down to the DIY and mooch amongst the shelves.

Spect dulux and crown do some nice ones.
Laura Ashley paint at Homebase too and not TOO pricy for a small tin.

cath kidston used to do a special one - not sure if they still do; not cheap though.

make sure you sand it well and the colour you use wont look too dreadful with whatever is underneath if it chips. then choose anyting you like.

i used f&b on dining chairs, it took an age to dry and it doesn't respond well to wiping so that is not getting my vote.
