5-point Harness for IKEA High Chair

I have recently bought an ANTILOP high chair from Ikea and am generally very pleased with it, compact and easy-to-clean! However the harness that comes with it is really woefully inadequate. While I'd never leave my LO in the chair while I'm out of the room I would like the security of a harness he can't climb out of when I'm at the other side of the kitchen. Has anyone purchased a separate harness and/or can give a recommendation? Thanks.

DD never escaped ours with the lapbelt on and she's escaped from many other chairs. It's too sturdy at the sides to allow much wriggling.

you could always attach reins to it.They come with loops for doing this.

I agree with wmmc - they can't get out of it. There's no wriggle room. Even now my DS is nearly two he can't stand up in it and he does in every other highchair without a 5 point harness

Agree with others. I think that the seat is so snug it makes wriggling out impossible. you can get the lap belt v tight too if you fiddle aroung underneath (tied a knot in mine). I love our Antilop!

TheMouse - if you think he will escape I have one of the inflatable seat pads which wedges them in even tighter you can have free - both DD and DS have fat bums so they can't fit in with it!

We never use the harness, but they can get out of the chair so be careful. DS2 is quite...ahem...strong willed, and he can stand up with ease in it whenthe mood takes him, despite being quite sturdy on account of the enormous amounts of spinach pasta he puts away on a regular basis. He's nearly two now, but he's been able to stand up in it for months and months. He rarely does though.

I bought a wooden highchair from IKEA that had the same straps as the Antilop and felt the same. I bought a set of reins from Mothercare and have fitted them to the chair, with the straps wrapped around the legs a few times so it is pretty secure and ensure that the straps are shortened off such that she can't stand up when it's on. It works pretty well.

IKEA should sell something a bit more secure imo.

THanks guys. He has almost stood up a couple of times with me right next to him so I think he definitely could escape completely! Will try the knot in the harness trick as I think the problem is that the lap belt loosens itself. If this does not work it's off to Mothercare for some heavy duty restraints

Whomovedmy that is so generous thanks. But seat pad = more to clean so lazy me would prefer the chair au naturel if I can get it to work
