Exremely Dim Question about LIGHT BULBS

PinkPussyCat · 10/12/2008 14:02

I have a 15w energy-saving light bulb which states on the box that it is the equivalent of 75w old-style bulb. Does this mean I can use it in a lamp which says "Max 60w" on it??

like what you did there re 'dim'!!!

good question tho. i just looked at my lamp, it's got an 8w low energy bulb in it, and it says onthe lamp max 40w.

i will check on the one downstairs

MincePirateCat · 10/12/2008 14:07

the one downstairs has a bulb with 50-60w equivalent, and the lamp is max 60 w.

this does not help you though, sorry.!!

the max wattage is because of the heat of the bulb - I doubt the energy savers get as hot, as they are only 15W, not actually 75W, so you should be ok to use it in a Max 60W shade. Just keep an eye out for brown patches on the shade!

MPC thanks for going to the trouble of checking! (lol at 'dim' - I was too dim even to notice that one!)

Thanks Thumbelf - If I smell burning I will get rid pronto
