What are your favourite sling related accessories

What is your favourite sling related accessory? My favourites:

  • babylegs leg warmers
  • sling view mirrors
  • my breastfeeding necklace (excellent for distracting little hands when they decide they're bored and want to scratch your face?)

I've already mentioned on a thread or two that I'm starting a sling hire/sales business. I'm happy with the sling brands I've got so far, but I'm looking at accessories to go with them. Ideally I'd like to stock british made ones but anything goes to a certain extent.

What would you like to buy to go with a sling? What brands are your favourites?

Def babylegs. A bag that works with a back carry is hard to come by though - I have a Mommy Kecci bag that is lovely (it converts from messenger to rucksac), but is too big now I just need my bits and a couple of pairs of spare pants for DS. So I have a slightly manky handbag that was all I could find with a long enough strap to go across me

StarlightWonderStarlightBright · 01/12/2008 22:01

Stuff wot doesn't have patterns that make you go cross-eyed. Call me dull, but I've just entered the sling world and whenever I try to shop I get a headache!

Wots wrong with neutral babylegs? I get stared at enough whilst babywearing. I don't want to look like a freak any more than I have to!

littlelamb · 01/12/2008 22:03

Actually, I don't have any accessories but i would be so interested in what bag you all use. I have ds in a Close atm and its a nightmare trying to get a bag that doesn't fall off my shoulder;

StarlightWonderStarlightBright · 01/12/2008 22:08

Littlelamb is in front? I carry DD in front atm and use a rucksack if not pushing my DS in the buggy! I figured with a back carry I'd just turn the rucksack around (and there was me worrying about looking like a freak )

littlelamb · 01/12/2008 22:09

I tried a rucksack but the straps kept falling down my shoulders!

IlanaK · 01/12/2008 22:22

I love those clip on wooden toys on long wooden beaded chains. I had a few different ones with ds2 and would clip them to the sling for him to play with. I got them from a sling seller (little possums if I remember rightly). I second babylegs. I have cow print ones and love them.

As to bags, I currently use a Close most days with ds3 (4 months old) in the front carry and I use either a normal rucksack if I have a lot to carry, or a shoulder bag that goes across him too. The one I use and love more than life itself is this in a medium size. It desperately needs replacing but I can't justify the cost . The strap is long enough to work so there must be other bags out there that are the same length.

My Kindercoat

I got it last year and have worn it almost every day since then.

I wish I had got the Ergo/Kindercoat combo way before I did (ds was already 2!) and hopefully will be able to use it again if I have another.

mawbroon · 01/12/2008 22:25

littlelamb, I got a thing like a giant bum bag from an outdoor shop which I wear round the front when i am doing a back carry.

Hang on, I'll see if I can find it and link

mawbroon · 01/12/2008 22:35

this kind of thing

ChirpyGrinch · 01/12/2008 22:41

Definately clip on toys for back wearing to save your hair.
Sling view mirror
I have an Onbag that I made that is perfect for bwing as it is so soft with no buckles etc. only prob is it's massive! but that is easily dealt with by filling it with crap!

CharCharGabor · 01/12/2008 22:43

I'd love:

affordable babylegs

a slingview mirror

some sort of cover for when it's raining

a bfing necklace

I want everything!

ThePeachyPlumFairy · 01/12/2008 22:44

The best thing I fing with ds4 (we use a mei tei hip seat now) is his fleece poncho which just throws over the whole baboodle and covers his hands / legs etc (I tend to still pop him in a sleepsuit on cold days to keep his feet / legs warm). It ws 2 degrees today, thrown over sleepsuit / jumper / warm jacket he was snuggly as anything.

littlelamb · 01/12/2008 22:44

Really like the look of those Onbags

ThePeachyPlumFairy · 01/12/2008 22:48

(can recommend these poncho people for sheer niceness and speed although i think there's cheaper about- as they're local I chose that as a priority iykwim)

mawbroon · 01/12/2008 22:54

LOL, you are all so much more stylish than me.

CharCharGabor · 01/12/2008 23:04

I really want a baby poncho! I'd like a knitted rainbow one though. I might ask mil if she could make one. Do you think it's hard to knit a hooded poncho?

Santaisfeelingfunnypeculiar · 01/12/2008 23:07

I love babylegs (the wackier the better here, I'm afraid

Agree that I struggled with a semi stylish bag whilst babywearing (ring sling user) ... and would love something that somehow integrated the two (my ring sling had a pouch but it was at the end of the tail so anything in it swung around between my legs like a pendulum

ChairmumMiaow · 02/12/2008 09:07

Lovely suggestions here thanks! Follows what I was thinking, so I guess I'll have to look at brands now!

I have a kindercoat which is a lifesaver, and I've just ordered a MaM babywearing cover for DS's auntie to use when she has him as she's doing the walking bus for her youngest's school with him today, and it started sleeting (she's several sizes smaller than me and I use my kindercoat all the time as it is warm and looks so normal!)

I'm not sure how many people would splash out £100+ on a babywearing coat, so I'll look at the covers / perhaps ponchos as a cheaper alternative.

My sling-mad friend has spent weeks trying to get hold of a babywearing coat, hardly anyone had them in stock, so I think there is definitely demand ChairmumMiaow.
I know what you mean about wacky babylegs designs, but I've chosen Dark Rye Spots, Blue/Brown, and Red Ribbed from here and I hope I won't look too freaky! LOL

ChairmumMiaow · 02/12/2008 10:58

thankcrunchie - I got mine at the beginning of the autumn (it was too hot to wear it at first) from natural connection and its great (although I have the red - definitely didn't pay extra for it, and I think I paid less over all strangely)

I like the wacky babylegs. Perhaps I'll have to order in some plain ones too!
