For a 7yo.

Don't really understand MP3's....but feel that CD players are out of dtae.

I vote MP3. DP (who is even more behind the ties) votes CD.

Got to be MP3.

And yes you're right, you copy CDs onto the player (convert the music to an MP3 file). Or you buy the music as an MP3 file online.

I would definitely go with the MP3 player. I have just spent the evening with my ds putting his albums on the PC and then downloading them to his MP3 player and he is chuffed. The MP3 player is smaller too, easier to carry around with him all the time.

iwoudl say cd player for a 7 year old.
perhaps more hardy, able to withstand knocks

Kbear · 30/11/2008 22:41

MP3

IdrisTheDragon · 30/11/2008 22:42

MP3 player

elkiedee · 30/11/2008 22:51

I'd say a CD player, perhaps one which can have an MP3 player linked to it.

If you do get an MP3 player don't overspend and think about agreeing out some basic rules with it. DS is too young yet but when he's the age to want one I don't want him walking around headphones in his ears - not very safe when crossing roads - or getting mugged for it. I don't think being able to carry it round is necessarily a plus point - it means it's easier for it to get lost/stolen.

i don;t know if you can get personal cd players can you>?
i struggled to get one last time i was looking.

DoNotAsfinishedXmasshopping · 30/11/2008 22:56

Yes you can.

I was only looking at a £10 starter MP3....it won't eb an iPod or anything.

They have a CD player in there bedroom...so the fact that you can walk around with it is exactly the point in this case.

mp3 if cheap enough.

having dropped at least 2 types of each [bull in china shop emoticon] the mp3 players seem to bounce better.

hannahlouhoo · 30/11/2008 23:05

mp3

7 year old will figure out how to use it in a day!!

if you have a computer(pc) download mp3 rocket )free version), then you can download music files for free.

can get v cheap mp3s from asda, tescos, ect.

mp3 tend to use less power so less batteries to buy! mp3s dont skip and mess about like cd players.

My mp3 player was under 30 quid a year ago has been used evryday since!

i agree with elkie tho about rules of use, how loud it is allowed to be on (ear drums) ect. maybe just for use with you when at home? have a happy xmas

elkiedee · 30/11/2008 23:07

DoNot, it sounds as if you know what's right for your 7 year old already.

But I would be concerned about a child being taught to wander round with headphones in his/her ears.

hannahlouhoo · 30/11/2008 23:11

op i think if can take cds out of the house they will never come back in!! if cds on computer then uploaded on to mp3 you'll never lose a cd ever again!i now own about 5 cds as 6 months ago my car was broken in to and evryone was stolen or snapped(they didnt like some of my cd i think!!)

mp3 mp3!!
