Baba Sling or Liberty Ring Sling for 11 mth old

Hi, I'm new to sling wearing with DD3 - the other 2 were such porkers I gave up after 6 months! The Baby Bjorn I have is a bit restrictive, and she is getting too heavy (18 lbs). TK Maxx have Baba Sling for £20, a local-ish baby shop has Liberty Slings which look nicer on the web for £25, but it's not so local I would just pop in to try one, it's a reasonable drive away.

Which would you go for - any experiences?

A friend has a baba sling which she stopped using with her DD at around 7 months - and she's not enormous.

I know some people happily use ring slings with older babies, but the one shoulder nature makes it less easy to get comfortable, and generally less comfortable for long carries.

I'd recommend a Mei Ta - babyhawks are my favourite. They're £50 new but you may be able to find something cheaper on ebay etc.

I wear 22lb, 10mo DS in a babyhawk and a woven wrap on a daily basis, and his auntie who looks after him while I'm at work finds the babyhawk easy and comfortable for him.

Hmm, they look comfy but I was trying to get away from the front-carrying (though not confident enough for back-carrying - a friend has offered to let me try her Ergo for that). It would not be for huge amounts of walking, just trips to London where I might have a 10 - 15 min walk, plus stairs and escalators that would be easier without a buggy, or the 10 minute school run. Any others have suggestions?

I've not been confident enough to try a back carry yet either and I carry dd (21Lb) in a napsack mei tai in a front carry. She is walking now so am about to switch to a hotsling for a hip carry as she wants to be up/down/up /down etc and I hope popping her in and out of this will be easier. Haven't got it yet so cannot report but have a look on ebay and you'll find a pouch sling for a hip carry for less than £20. The baba looks pretty bulky to me as well.

Excellent advice from chairmummiaow.
I would only use a ring sling for quick-get-baby-on emergencies and only really in the house.
Mei tais very easy to use - if you don't like the long straps, get one with buckles.
Have you tried the ergo? It can be used for hip carries too.

I use a Baba Sling with my (very big!)13 month old. I only got it when he was 8 months old, specifically for doing a hip carry for short distances and it's fine for that, any longer than 10 mins and my back starts to ache. But I love it for taking him to nursery which is about a 5 min walk away - too long to carry him without a sling and too short to faff with the buggy.

I used a ring sling until v recently with my 2.3 month old, around the house and to take with me on short walks in case she got bored of walking. I can easily carry her for about half an hour in it if necessary. She is a bit of a tiddler, though, only about 9kgs even now.

Sorry, 2.3 year old.

I have a baba sling I used with the hip carry for my dd from 12 mths. Really convenient for a hip carry as v quick to get on and off and non-bulky so i could keep it on if she wanted to get down. HAven't got on well with it for newborn ds though - he didn't like the reclined positions and it hurt my back.
