I need to buy a pair of oven gloves (not the attached kind, the ones that are seperate gloves) for my mother for Christmas. She has fairly traditional tastes - she likes florals and also art deco style. I haven't been able to find anything nice!

Typhoon have got some lovely ones

IlanaK · 28/11/2008 17:40

They are lovely. Unfortunately not available online and no stokist near me.

I got some cath kidson ones for a friend...nice and flowery

blametheparents · 28/11/2008 17:43

That's a shame, there must be an online stockist though even if you can't directly order them through the Typhoon website.

micku5 · 28/11/2008 17:44

I was going to suggest lakeland limited but they aren't very exciting.

IlanaK · 28/11/2008 18:43

I looked in a Cath Kidsonshop and didn't like them - too flowery and also very pricey. I looked at Lakeland too - it was my first thought - but they only have really functional ones - not nice looking.

Ah wait! The Typhoon ones are available through amazon!

Ebay?

KatyMac · 28/11/2008 18:50

I like the cream attached ones with coloured trim - but I can't get them anywhere

(sorry that doesn't help you but if anyone is looking for a present for me.......)

Coagulate · 28/11/2008 18:51

I have ome Marimekko ones. Its like the Liberty of Finland - are very cool and much admired.

MaryBS · 28/11/2008 18:51

TK Maxx always seem to have a good selection.

IlanaK · 28/11/2008 19:01

Thanks everyone for your help. Yes, oven gloves as a present as she has specifically asked for some!

The divertimenti and john lewis ones are not quite right. However, ebay is a great idea and I have found some lovely ones by a brand Rushbrookes. I just need to see if they can do them as a pair as she wants two, not one.

I know you said the Lakeland ones are really functional but the Coolskin Gauntlet ones they have are very good. Bought some for my mum for Christmas a few years ago because none of the pretty ones she has were thick enough and she was always burning her fingers and dropping hot tins on the floor. If your mum does lots of cooking maybe worth thinking about.

amazonianwoman · 28/11/2008 23:06

These don't match your design criteria at all but they're fab. Just bought an Orka oven mitt from Lakeland today.

It's fab, can't believe it works but pulled a piping hot cottage pie out of the oven tonight. And the best thing is you don't have to machine wash it every time it gets covered in gravy

Off to buy another one for the other hand next week

RiojaLover75 · 28/11/2008 23:17

I've bought a couple from Pampered Chef, they're thick and brilliantly heat proofed.

Mine are in cream. Wash and tumble dry with no problems!
