I seem to break vacuum cleaners on a regular basis, I have yet to find one that lasts more than a year, my latest broke tonight, do you have a good one? What do you have?

Try a henry. They are robust.

I've had my dyson for 8 years, it needs a new hose now but still works. Could be because I hardly use it though??

You want a Bissell!

thumbwitch · 24/11/2008 22:50

I have a Miele - have had it for 17 years (Black Diamond so on the small side but you can get bigger ones) and it is still as good as it ever was (which is great).
Again though, like Phantom, possibly because it doesn't get over-exercised?

gigglewitch · 24/11/2008 22:51

I heart my Henry

EachPeachPearMum · 24/11/2008 22:53

I have a little bosch... had it for 7 years I think, and still going strong.

DH just saw this over my shoulder and said....
Get someone else to do your vacuuming, then you won't break it!

new dysons come with 5year warrenties.

dizzydixies · 25/11/2008 09:54

miele cat and dog, we're a filthy family and its FANTASTIC

our dyson was crap, kept breaking and cost us a fortune to be fixed

Pigstyle · 25/11/2008 10:04

SEBO-will never touch another make again.Pulls me round the house twice a day.Not the prettiest but definitely the best I have ahd.

There was another thread on this recently and someone knew a man in the repairs office at John Lewis who said they had never had a SEBO come in for repair.

ILikeToMoveItMoveIt · 25/11/2008 10:07

Miele.

I hated our Dyson. It was so heavy and it was crap if the cylinder was more than 1/2 full.

Iloveautumn · 25/11/2008 10:09

Another vote for Miele cat and dog.

Very robust - I am not gentle on vacuum cleaners and I now have a 2 yrold who likes to use it and is even less gentle. it seems to take anything! (I must have had it least 6 or 7 years.)

AMumInScotland · 25/11/2008 10:13

Miele - I didn't get the cat & dog one, but then regretted it and bought the turbo-brush as an add-on. It's certainly doing fine, but only a couple of years of not-very-frequent use so far!

Drusilla · 25/11/2008 10:14

Yet another Miele cat and dog. Miele expect all their stuff to last 20 years. My mums is 15 yrs old and still going strong (and trust me, she is keen on housework). DS sits on mine and uses it like a digger. The motors in Dysons are notorious for going after a couple of years.

I always use an Oreck. I like them because they are very, very light, VERY powerful, and have the longest lead ever - so I can do all my upstairs in one go.

The downside is you have to buy the bags by mail order and they are quite pricey. You can replace the roller and belt yourself very easily if you ever need to. I did break one but that's because I'm not very careful about picking up hairpins and things and suffered a bit of a meltdown once.

I like them so much I wouldn't ever change brands - except I am getting a cheap Roomba-clone for Xmas following some recommendations on here.
