would you put a wooden venetian blind in a bedroom?

It's for the spare room. I would like something reasonably priced but that looks alright. Our windows are enormous so Roman blinds tend to be on the expensive side. I would ideally like it to be up for the 12th December - another reason for the venetian option because I think they are quicker to make (although I could be wrong).

Any thoughts? TIA.

You'd make them?? Do you mean the wooden slatted things?

That would be very quick and easy but it wouldn't insulate at all if your windows are draughty. And they wouldn't block out much light in the morning.

But would look good!

NO! I wouldn't make them, I would Get A Man In.

I know about the light thing, but as it's the spare room I thought it would be OK.

We had one in our bedroom at our old house. I had it made as it was so much cheaper than the wooden interior shutters I'd originally wanted.

And as I recall it didn't take long to get it done. The guy who fitted it smoked while he was doing it, setting off my smoke alarm, and then scarpered in panic leaving me heavily pregnant, with 2 yr old DC clinging onto me in terror at the noise, and I was totally unable to reach the smoke alarm to switch it off, even standing on a chair. I had to get the neighbour round to do it for me. So my only advice would be, don't use this particular guy (Brighton)

The blind itself was brilliant, kept out a surprising amount of light, and it looked lovely.

I have one in my bedroom, I am suprised that you are onsidering this as maybe not being 'normal'? We only have blinds though as I am not one for curtains.

We've got them in our spare room. They don't cut much light out, are a faff and don't insulate.

I added a curtain pole and v long curtains from Ikea.

I tend to see them more in bathrooms or front rooms. They are nice though and easy to clean and maintain. I don't really like curtains, we have a Victorian house with deep windows and we would lose the recess space with curtain.

Thanks everyone! I will phone the man today (not MissC's man though )

We used to have one in the bedroom of our old house. I customised it and attached a blackout blind to the side you couldn't see from in the bedroom, and then it did make the room dark.

Main reason we did it was because of old walls that were impossible to drill into for putting up curtain fittings. We attached the blind fittings to the (wide) wooden frame instead. Sounds ropey as anything from that description but it actually looked ok!

I have one in my bedroom - I love it! I have it because I hate nets but need a bit of privacy during the day. It doesn't block alot of light though but I am putting curtains over aswell. I got mine half price online and it's a really nice one.
