Do IKEA chairs fall apart? Be honest!

I am about to buy some chairs from IKEA with a credit note card thingy. I like the Kaustby ones but my sister says they'll fall apart. I dont like new furniture anyway would much rather have some old bentwoods or something but not an option as i live in southern Spain where you just dont get old stuff...

so, do they fall apart or not?

My IKEA dining chairs have been nothing but trouble. So, yes, IME they do fall apart.

AMumInScotland · 21/11/2008 13:18

I don't have dining chairs from Ikea, but I do have bar stools and chair beds and they have been fine for about 7 or 8 years now...

NoBiggy · 21/11/2008 13:20

I'm sitting in my 6 year old Ikea armchair, seems fine. The bolts need tightening once in a while, that's all.

francagoestohollywood · 21/11/2008 13:21

My mum's had ikea chairs in the kitchen for yrs (at least ten). They are still there

yomellamoHelly · 21/11/2008 13:24

I think they're fine so long as once you've put them together you leave them alone. We've dismantled IKEA stuff when moving in the past and it's never been quite the same again.

TheBlonde · 21/11/2008 13:28

Ours are fine after almost 5 years

Shitemum · 21/11/2008 13:29

thanks, has anyone got the ones in my link?

OP posts:
TheBlonde · 21/11/2008 13:36

yes sat on one now

Shitemum · 21/11/2008 14:36

TheBlonde - Are you still on the chair or has it fallen apart yet?

Shitemum · 21/11/2008 14:37

pinkjenny - which ones have you got?

Grin

We have these and they have been great for 5 years. They take a bit of strength to put together as the bolts have to be done up tightly, but then they are fine.

Pinkjenny · 21/11/2008 15:15

I've been trying to find them for you, but the site wants me to install some Adobe Flash Player. IT do not. Sorry!!

Pinkjenny · 21/11/2008 15:17

I tell a lie. here

GrapefruitMoon · 21/11/2008 15:18

I have a couple of dining chairs which i've had for 15 years and they are still as sturdy as when they were new. They are solid pine (as are the ones you linked to I think) - I find the solid wood stuff lasts the best.

ledodgy · 21/11/2008 15:18

We have those chairs, they've been going 4 years now and are fab.

Shitemum · 21/11/2008 16:09

ok, will get them then ...

We bought these 8 years ago, left them for tenants in flat when we moved out and they are still going strong. Not in that horrible colour though. Ours were beech/blue cushons.

SoupDragon · 21/11/2008 16:15

I have 6 Ikea dining chairs and one has fallen apart.

Having said that, I've had them since 1995 though

Pinkjenny · 21/11/2008 16:15

Belgianbum - agreed!! Dh can be quite, erm, heavy handed, which may have contributed to our ishoos!

ohdearwhatamess · 21/11/2008 16:15

Yes, they do. About to replace the ones in our kitchen (3 yrs old) with something more stable.

I have the ones in your link and we are the 3rd owners of them and they are still as strong and sturdy as ever and still look good.
