So if rear facing pushchairs are best what do you do if you need a double?

DD will be 2.4 years when DS will be born. I've got an icandy but I was never that happy with it, about to ebay it. Can't push it with one hand and it would weigh a tonne with a toddler and a baby buggyboard or pear option. Don't fancy that post c-section.

Had resigned myself to a P&T but concerned that most babies I see are in the cocoon fast asleep during the day and will never sleep at night. Also they are so hidden.

One option is the Bugaboo bee with a buggyboard, but everybody tells me I need a double even if its for 6 months.

I loved the rear facing aspect of the icandy although DD wanted to face forwards from 9 months. What do you do with the latest government advice if you have two children under 3 I wonder?

I would pay absolutely no notice to the govt "advice" and just do what suits you. (Personally I think it's bollocks, but that's just me.)

faces both ways

Gov Advice is twaddle though, lol.

Enchanted 0 taht is a nice double buggy, shame I don't need one at the moment!

EyeballsintheSky · 21/11/2008 09:19

I intend to do the same as I do with all govt. advice. Ignore it. Forward faacing makes your baby stressed and affects their entire life. FFS!

mabanana · 21/11/2008 09:19

It's not 'government advice' it is an indepedent study showing that parents talk to their children more when they face them, which completely makes sense.

The one above looks good, but unless your dc are going to be spending a majority of their time in the pushchair I would completely ignore this latest "advice". It's not as if your lo's are fondly staring at you every minue of the day wherever they are!

This is more accurate description of the research:

"This is a piece of research conducted by The Children's Project and my research team,
in collaboration with the National Literacy Trust, funded by the Sutton
Trust, which looked at the impact of buggy orientation on parent-infant
interaction and possible infant stress.

Two studies were conducted: 1) a national observational study that
recorded babies' and parents' buggy-related behaviour on UK high streets
and 2) an experimental study comparing behaviour in the two
orientations. The key finding of the work is that orientation changes
interaction - parents were twice as likely to talk in parent-facing
buggies, as opposed to away-facing buggies. Moreover, away-facing
buggies were by far the most popular mode of transport for children aged
approximately 2 years and below. And there are tentative findings that
away-facing buggies may increase infant stress.

These findings are important because we know, from much other research,
that the early interactions of parents and children make a difference to
their development. Young children can spend a significant amount of
their day in a buggy - and if some designs are better for them than
others, then parents deserve to have that information AND manufacturers
need to be sure that such models are available at affordable prices.

As far as we can tell, these are the first studies of their kind in the
psychological research literature, so we think the findings are exciting
and hope that they will spark future research on this issue."

I was going to get the one that enchanted posted but we went to see it and it is very wide and the lady in the shop told us it wouldn't fit through the shop door.

I have a Phil and Teds and I can't wait for DS2 to arrive so I can use the double kit.

Unless you are planning to leave your kids in their pushchair all day then I dont think it matters.
