I really want a sling for my DD (still only 6 days old, so we haven't actually gone out anywhere yet! ).

i didn't use a sling with my DS, so am a complete novice.

How on earth do i go about choosing one?

I used a moby wrap with my newborn and dd lived in it for the first four months. Was really comfy for both of us and easy to use, but at 4 months had to switch to something less stretchy. You can hire them from SaSa slings, or BigMama Slings to try for a week or too and see what type you like. Good luck deciding, the choice is enormous .

ditto the moby. it's fantastic.

sasaslings are fabulous.

Can you get to a SlingMeet? Would make a huge difference to how you get on with a wrap sling which is the ideal choice for a winter newborn.

Chirpygirl · 20/11/2008 20:42

I started with a pouch as it is very hard to get it wrong if it is the right size.
A Coorie is a good start as it is fleece adn warm for winter.
Afte a pouch you buy a wrap, then a ring sling, then a mei tai, and maybe a Podegai...
But seriosuly, a pouch is most user friendly and a wrap is comfiest.

A wrap looks more complicated than it is, honestly. A stretchy one like a moby is really simple to get the hang of so don't be put off by the amount of fabric!

Useful links (maybe)

wrapping instructions for moby wrap

Sasa Sings Gave me great advice when I was searching for my first]]

Big Mama Slings Great advice and often have good sale items,

Thanks - feeling quite excited :-)

Have a read on instructions and watch some vids first to get the idea. Its not complicvated once you get the hang and it is sooo much easier than a buggy if tyou have a fast toddler!

Mrs Mattie - excellent choice. Definitely try slingmeet if you can as people will give you hints and tips to get your wrap on better, quicker and more comfortably! (hopefully you'll be in one of the areas with an active meet!)
