What is the big deal about Isofix??

We are getting a new car today that will have Isofix points and I have been looking at IF car seats.

My question is - Are they that much safer then strapping the seat in? Is it just for the convience of clipping it in?

I just want to put my mind at rest as we cant really spend the extra on Isofix but if it that much better I will. Thanks.

yes, they are considerably safer as the seat is directly linked to the chassis of the car, rather than being only attached via the seatbelt which has a lot more leeway. They are also what they call a positive fix, in that you can see immediatly if they are not correctly fixed in, unlike other car seats

Hi there,

I agree that they are much safer...also, the convenience factor is a MAJOR plus point.

The next car seats we buy will be isofix as our new car has them.

Agree with cnutdibbler with the positive fix situation.

I am lucky that Dh is a big bloke and can put some serious weight onto my 2 year old's car seat to fix it with the seatbelt. When I try the seat still moves a bit.

Yes, fabulously convenient if you're using an infant carrier.

Thanks everyone. I think I will pay the extra.

They remove the 'human error' aspect - and with a newborn I am guessing that's a risk!!!

StealthPolarBear · 22/11/2008 18:52

I love them!

whats the big deal ..?!!!!!!!!!!! They are attached to the chassis of the car (can't get more secure) so mean it will never more in an accident.
Easier to fit and no wrong way of fitting.

Do it, worth it.

DD&Ds's are isofix in my car BUT dh's car isn't isofix and we put the seats into his car last week....they moved all over the place..
