We need a new dishwasher

Mine is meant to be being fixed but I am expecting the guy to say he can't find the part so we will be looking for a new machine. The insurers will pay out so I would guess we have a budget of about £300. The machine we have is a Hotpoint and less than 2 years old.

I need a machine that can cope with well above average usage and can pay on top some if need be.

DH thinks we shoud just buy a cheap one and replace more often.

Would prefer not a Hotpoint. Found with them nothing but trouble as they can't cope with a lot of use. D/W, washing machine, etc etc.

I am on the lookout for a new DW too so will watch with interest. Mine has also been nothing but trouble, it is an Indesit so I would avoid them too if I were you!

buy a bottle of fairy liquid and save yourself the £300

Habbibu · 17/11/2008 14:47

Can look on Which, if you want.

imnotmamagbutshelovesme · 17/11/2008 15:45

I have had enough of washing up, np.

Thanks H. I appreciate that.

ok -- will do. It's v slow today, for some reason. Will report back.

AMumInScotland · 17/11/2008 16:06

I got a Bosch Logixx one about a year back - they get a very good rating for reliability. Hotpoint generally get slated for reliability, i'm afraid.

SpringySunshine · 17/11/2008 16:08

(Sorry!)

I posted a thread earlier about portable dishwashers - anyone know anything about them?

Habbibu · 17/11/2008 16:10

I had an AEG electrolux one that lasted 13 months AEG said tough luck your warranty is out of date, see yah!!!!! - so basically £400 down the drain as it was an electrical fault and our repair man said as it was intermitant there is no way without huge cost you could find it.

There is obviously no way I would buy or recommend another.

Now have a Gorenje - who?? similar to bosch it came with a 2 year warranty

kiddiz · 17/11/2008 16:23

I'm probably tempting fate here but we have had our bosch dishwasher for 5 years now with no problems. We are a family of 5 so it gets a fair bit of use.
I too know I would be very reluctant to return to our pre dishwasher days. Each visit to stay with mil reinforces this. She has no dishwasher and one week of washing up after 7 people makes me fall in love with my dishwasher all over again!!!!

imnotmamagbutshelovesme · 17/11/2008 16:23

70 odd per cent reliability? Is that all?

We have a policy which costs us £10 a month and covers 3 appliances. It pays out for repairs or a new machine if it can't be fixed. Best £10 spent as we have had 2 new appliances from it so far.

We've got this one and I'm really pleased with it

It comes with a 3 year guarantee and free delivery.

AMumInScotland · 17/11/2008 16:31

The percentages aren't reliability, they are the overall score including features, ease of use, how sparkling clean the glasses were, etc

ohdearwhatamess · 17/11/2008 16:31

My AEG died just after the guarantee expired too.

Have a Bosch now which is ok, but nothing more. We use it a lot (2/3 loads a day).

imnotmamagbutshelovesme · 17/11/2008 16:33

OH, that's a relief AMIS.

procrastinatingparent · 17/11/2008 16:37

Had a Bosch for 8 years now - very reliable, used at least once or twice a day. Very occasional hiccoughs when an orange pip or similar gets stuck and the water doesn't drain, but we are wise to that now and know where to look.

saltcod · 17/11/2008 16:41

Have had the Bosch Classixx one for a few years... been faultless so far. It's also nice and simple - no point having tonnes of different wash programmes as most people only use 1 or 2 of them. It's pretty quiet too & has extra features such as a knife rack, fold down plate racks etc. Would recommend.

(hope I haven't jinxed it now )

JulesJules · 17/11/2008 16:44

I have a Bosch Classixx, it is good but the spelling annoys me.

IMO, it is a good idea to buy from John Lewis or the like which may be a bit more expensive but often throw in 2/3/5 years guarantee.

Habbibu · 17/11/2008 17:31

Here are the don't buys - dd was insisting on watching REM and the Muppets on YouTube, hence the delay:

Matsui MS2W/A £169.95 40%
Proline DWF1250P £178.99 38%
Indesit DI450 £261.98 35%
Proline PDW041 £149.99 33%
Kenwood KDW12SL3A £229.95 30%

eltham · 18/11/2008 12:57

miele...very good and very quiet

ObamasPinkPussyCat · 18/11/2008 14:57

Habbibu that is very useful, thank you

TheGoat · 18/11/2008 15:00

bosch bosch bosch [waves pom poms]

Habbibu · 18/11/2008 20:05

You are most welcome, presidential elect pet.

imnotmamagbutshelovesme · 19/11/2008 17:39

Haven't heard back from the engineer yet and I am expecting him not to be able to get the part.

DH has said we will probably get a Bosch.

Thank you for all your help.
