Can anyone tell me the name of this, badly described, Fisher Price toy?

When I went to collect DD from nursery today saw a great toy which may have to go on the list to FC, except for the fact that i dont know what its called!

It was a drawing type game with a screen similiar to, but bigger than, etch-a-sketch. A bright surround..maybe yellow .....or green. The screen was covered with a layer of black squidgy stuff. Not 'messy squidgy, but there was a layer of thin black stuff under the surface which moved when you pressed your finger in or drew a line to reveal a bright colour from underneath.

How am i doing with my description?
Is this ringing any bells with anyone?

Is it a magnetic type game? Can't remember whta it' called but i think the black stuff is iron filings

Pixiefish · 12/11/2008 20:26

something like this?

wrinklytum · 12/11/2008 20:26

Oh god,I know exactly what you mean as dd had one!I will rack my brains to think of the name.Hers had little shapes and played music when you rolled the squidgy stuff flat.

rosealbie · 12/11/2008 20:29

We had one of these, can't remember the name though but got it from Mothercare. The gel was blue and it had a bar which you could pull across to rub out the picture and start again. It came with several shapes which could be pressed into the gel to make marks and played music.

Tobermory · 12/11/2008 20:30

no, not a magnetic game. The black stuff is almost like a thick fluid

Tobermory · 12/11/2008 20:36

Hurray, well done...thats the one wrinklytum and rosealbie.

A question.... which do you rate most highly aquadraw or the FP fingerpaint?

Half price at Argos

wrinklytum · 12/11/2008 20:38

Well,I bought dds for her for 2 birthday, and she had quite severe learning delays.I thought the fingerpainting would be good for her sensory/motor skills with me guiding her finger to make patterns. So I am sure it would be fine for a NT 2 yo

rosealbie · 12/11/2008 20:40

I would go for aquadraw purely because my dd was not really at all interested in the magic fingerpaint and it ended up in the charity shop. The music is also a bit annoying!

With the aquadraw they can draw with the pens, splash or sprinkle wateron , make hand and footprints etc etc.

wrinklytum · 12/11/2008 20:42

I think also the Aquadraw would may be more "Versatile" for a nt child, leaves more scope to do different stuff with it.

bythepowerofgreyskull · 12/11/2008 20:43

thanks wrinkly tum - what does NT mean?

wrinklytum · 12/11/2008 20:48

Sorry,Neurologically typical! Is used a lot on the special needs board on MN to describe a child without special needs,as the majority of our children are "Neurological atypical"..Guess I was being a little overly PC

Tobermory · 12/11/2008 20:50

Ah! The batteries were obv flat, or removed, at nursery...no music!

OK, thanks for advice....will stick with aquadraw

Just thought of something else, it was quite difficult to make the marks deep enough so that they 'stayed' instead of the gel just filling in the mark and disappearing.
