Ford C-MAX - opinions please?

The head gasket on our Freeander has blown, and althouh it is beingrepaired we are thinking ofgetting rid.

In the meantime the dealership who we bought it from have loaned us a C-MAX, 4 years old, 50k miles on clock, diesel.

It is basic and very boring looking, the steering wheel is a bit flimsy and it is very light on the road. BUT it seems to drive really well, and the more I am driving it, reluctantly the more I am finding Iam enjoying the drive. It has some poke in it, and gear changes are smooth, it appears economical, has good boot space, plenty of space for 2 adults and 1 child, with a potential one other.

I am going to go research it as I would never have even looked at a Ford.

Can MNers give me some opinions on this car? Good and bad both welcome.

it is meant to be roomy, and very economical - we decided against it because not room to get 3 car seats across the back - but it looked good on paper.

throckenhold. It is surprisingly roomy, but then, we were given a Punto for a couple of days first so might have been comparing! (should have seen DHs face, from Freelander to a Punto....not impressed!).

I looks like it will fit two car seats well, and enough boot space for all the crap of a toddler and a baby, and canoeing stuff.

We've got a C-Max, previously we had a Ford Focus, we have we have a 5 year old, a 7 week old and DP's 12 year old son and the 2 car seats and DSS all fit in the back very comfortably. We can also fit my Bugaboo Cameleon chassis, Carrycot and a weeks worth of shopping in the boot with plenty more space to spare.

There's plenty of leg room in the back, also you can remove the back seats for carrying larger loads. In fact we bought a complete bathroom suite (full sized bath, toilet and sink etc) on a whim and managed to fit it all in the back/boot in one trip, 5 year old DD was also in the car at the same time!

Get a Nissan Quasqui. They are great.

cissycharlton · 10/11/2008 19:14

Qashqai even (I'm going nuts I swear it).

Jennie - well that sounds pretty good for space! It is really economical, I am very surprised. We have put a tenner in since saturday filled quarter tank and its hardly touched it pootling around town. Our freelander would have used that much just at the traffic lights

Cissy - DH loves the qashquai - I am put off by the name, shallow I know. But not sure I can drive a car that sounds like 'cash cow'!!!

Are Nissan's reliable? Are Ford? I heard lots of negative things about reliability and ease of being broken into regarding Ford, but not sure if this is for older models .

Nissan - are generally reliable - Ford a bit less so - but at least there are loads of Ford garages around (compared to most other makes).
