The LeapFrog one is quite good, I've heard. We're looking in to getting one for DS.

ds had one of these. www.vtechuk.com/products-and-accessories/challenger-laptop/
He loved it until it got too easy for him.

LadyLaGore · 06/11/2008 22:49

ooh, that v tech one looks good

ive just been looking at a vtech and a leapfrog handheld style one. anyone got one? do you have to be able to plug them into a telly to get half the play out of them?
im tempted by the idea that the games might be educational but not seem like it... they are calling it edutainment
heres one of them... and the review sounds good...

The v Tech ones are like laptops with maths/english games on them. It kept ds quiet for hours.

LadyLaGore · 06/11/2008 23:03

yeah, the quietness would be a bonus

hes sort of struggling a little at school and i want to support his learning but not in any way schooly iyswim, coz he spends enough time there and he wants out of school time to be for fun! fair play i say.
my little sister had one of these eons ago and it was fab, she played it endlessly from about 5yo and got really good at everything on it. she was a smart cookie anyway, but it seemed to be a help to her especially as she enjoyed it.

i just need to pitch it right...
if i get this one his elder brother (here on w/ends) might be interested a bit/less derisive of babyishness and that would make it seem interesting to him... also, if its not really easy then his little brothers couldnt really play it and that would make it more 'special'... you think? as long as the games werent too hard to start with so he gave up before getting interested... hmmm
