opinions on Quinny speedi and Mountain Buggy please

Am looking for a 3 wheeler that is lighter-weight/ easier to fold than my P&T e3, preferably with big tyres, not the little double-type front wheel... so far it seems to be a shortlist of Quinny Speedi or a Mountain Buggy.

Quinny seems ok to handle - in the shop that is! - but the dimensions and weight make me think I will take it down the highstreet and suddenly discover that it is mahoosive and heavy.

Mountain buggy I have only looked at online.

All views greatly appreciated, thanks.

MB is the best ut of those two.

but BOB is even better

CantSleepWontSleep · 03/11/2008 16:01

Where will you use the pushchair? If it's mainly for 'taking down the highstreet' then why get a buggy that excels off-road?

The MB is fantastic (I have the Urban - is this the model that you are considering?), but it is bulkier than a lot of pushchairs, so a strange choice for about town.

TheWheelsOnTheBusHaveFallenOff · 03/11/2008 16:10

I haven't heard of BOB - tell me more please!

I have an older style XTS twister on feebay, they are fab because they are so light to push & easy to fold. You haven't said your budget?

TheWheelsOnTheBusHaveFallenOff · 03/11/2008 16:18

Thanks CSWS - I was looking at MB Urban.

It is mainly for urban use but also some light rural stuff - eg my parents live in teh country so we go for not-especially challenging but quite muddy walks! This weekend good example of walk across flat fields in the rain - buggy had to go through big puddles, down muddy paths etc. Anything with non-tyre or small wheels would have been hopeless, puddles were half way up my wellies at times and the mud was quite sucky IYKWIM! But the P&T while brilliant for things like that is also bulky and hard to fold and I don't use it on a daily basis, far from it. I use a McClaren Techno for town but that is pretty knackered now so thought I would try to upgrade both into one new buggy. I suspect I am trying to get something that does everything, which won't exist of course!

City Buggy Elite?

pushchair · 03/11/2008 16:57

had a debate recently over which three wheeler to get and was torn between the jane slalom pro and mountain buggy. Chose jane in the end, mostly on special offer price but also because of bumper bar, upright seat and great looks. i liked the quinny speedi I briefly owned only didnt have bumper bar and seat is quite sloped back even at its most upright.

TheWheelsOnTheBusHaveFallenOff · 03/11/2008 17:07

interesting about slopey seat on Quinny pushchair- I prefer for ds to sit more upright than a lot of the lighter weight strollers allow. think that prob rules out the QUinny then.

so now it is MB, BOB, and will look at the XTS Car Girl, can you link to your ebay page please? also don't know about City Buggy Elite and have lots of different results coming up on Google for that - do you have one of those too?

pushchair · 03/11/2008 17:14

American? Yeah looks nice but prefer more upright seat anyway will leave thread to you now TWONBHFO

misdee · 03/11/2008 17:22

yes, they should be over here i na couple of months, a arare few appear on uk ebay, and they are brilliant!

PixelHerder · 03/11/2008 17:29

I really don't think the perfect air-tyre buggy that's nippy enough to get around town exists - yet! Is your Techno unusable? If not I'd keep that and get a cheapish second-hand offroader to use when you need to.

fwiw the MB Terrain is, oddly, narrower than the MB Urban, which in my book makes it easier to get around town, despite the lack of swivel wheel. They are both pretty bulky though.

MB Terrain is great for off-road btw, I got one on Ebay and intend to put it back on Ebay when I'm done with it, so hopefully it won't cost much in the long run.

PixelHerder · 03/11/2008 17:47

ooh like the look of the Bobs - and the Revolution is a whopping 10cm narrower than the MB Urban (58.4cm vs 68.5cm)

Doesn't sound much but makes a BIG difference in shop aisles.

naomi83 · 03/11/2008 20:54

Maclaren off roader looks fab, but i don't think you but them anymore, seen a few on ebay though. my friend has one and it pushes like a dream. takes a carrycot too. or a baby jogger city classic, folds very easily, with big wheels, but narrow enough for city use

Fawnie · 25/03/2009 20:35

we went with the quinny in the end. it is impressively easy to handle, light enough to steer with one hand and turns on a sixpence. however it is seriously wide and so i do have to take care in tightly packed shops.

i will see if i can get the bumper bar as the model we have didn't come with one, and i think they are useful.

as for the seat not going fully upright, once my DD is old enough for that to be a problem, i would expect her to be walking most of the time, and only getting in the buggy when tired.

or is that over-optimistic?!?!

AnnasBananas · 28/03/2009 14:26

A friend has the Speedi and she is so fed up with the seat not being upright enough and her LO straining her head to see/props herself up on her elbows to get more upright. She has rigged something with a velcro strap to improve it.

I have just sold my P&T Sport and going back to my beloved Jane Powertrack 360 now four years old but going strong. How about the Jane Slalom?? Lightweight and pushes like a dream and fab over rough terrain too.

nicolamumof3 · 28/03/2009 16:29

nipper 360...fab! really, really light but nice air tyres copes well for the money too is excellent (£175)

laraeo · 28/03/2009 18:59

I have the BOB SUS Delux and it is AWESOME! I got it when we went back Stateside over Christmas. It is narrower by far than my Buzz and wish I'd just have bought the Revolution as my day-to-day stroller. We haven't had any trouble with the seat not being upright enough but then I'm not jogging very far. I got the whole kit - weather cover, sun shield, and carry case. The weather cover is superb. And there's tons of storage space in the under basket. The only thing it doesn't have is a belly bar. We're going to France in May and it's going to be a tough decision as to which to take.
