Tumble dryers- anyone got the Which? reviews

Have been recommended White Knight by the man who declared my tumble dryer dead today, but finding mixed reviews on-line. Anyone got access to the Which? reviews and time to do a bit of cutting and pasting??

Thank you!

We have a white knight dryer, cheap and cheerful, does the job well and is energy efficent (is it AA? or AAA? one of those anyway), had it about a year and had no probs.

Have I read correctly that the low-energy 'A' rated cycle runs for 8 hrs?? Seems somewhat counter-intuitive!

The latest 'Don't buy; list from Which includes 2 Whie Knights - see this thread
Indesit ISL70C
White Knight 76AW
Indesit IS70C
White Knight 76AS
Hotpoint CTD40 Aquarius
Hotpoint CTD80 Ultima
Hotpoint CTD85 Ultima
Creda TCR2

Not sure what model we have but it runs for a max of 2 hours. I only use it really for towels and bedding, which never need more than about 45 mins.

More info on the White Knights

White Knight 76AW & AS (identical except AS is silver & about £20 more)
This condenser tumble drier from White Knight works on a timer and has a maximum capacity of 6kg. It takes 114 minutes to dry a full load of cottons fully.

This is an mid-level model from value brand White Knight. This model's affordable and dries quickly. However, it's awkward to use and noisy, and lets too much moisture escape into the air, so we dont think you should buy it.

We tested the previous version the White Knight 767, changes are cosmetic only. The 76AW is white, the 76AS is silver, otherwise the models are identical

Pros: Dries evenly. The door is reversible

Cons: Poor energy efficiency

MadreInglese · 31/10/2008 10:34

Oh, and ours is not a condenser, it's a pipe-out-the-catflap job.

Will check the model when I'm home later.

Ooh- thanks for that RB. I see you are the guru in such matters !

Actually there are 2 White Knights on the Best buy list too, but they are gas-powered. Apparently they need professional installation, but cost about £35 a year instead of £95 for electric.

MadreInglese · 31/10/2008 13:35

Ours is a 427WV, it's fairly bog standard but all that we needed

Haven't seen a which report on it though

missingtheaction · 31/10/2008 13:39

whatever happens get one with a sensor so it turns itself off when stuff is dry.

anyone out there got a gas one?
