New vacuum cleaner - any opinions?

We need to buy a new cylinder vacuum cleaner as our old one has given up the ghost after 7 yrs. I've been asking around for general opinions & feedback and there seem to be 2 camps out there - Dyson lovers and Dyson haters! I have decided against a Dyson on the advice of salesmen in 2 different John Lewis stores. I have also given a Dyson a test run and it weighed a ton.

Quite a few people have recommended Miele as a reliable, good quality make. I've looked on the internet and the Solution Hepa 700 seems to be the best for us because it's designed for wooden floors and carpets. Any comments/suggestions?

hi everyone

our vacuum cleaner packed up last week and i'm trying to decide between three models:

Sebo Airbelt K1 Komfort
Miele S371
Morphy Richards Eco

i've read the comments on the top two below, but was wondering if anyone could comment on the MR Eco? i like the sound of the washable dust bag (my pet worms will eat the contents of the bag) and filters, and the fact it is made with some recycled materials. the capacity of the dustbag is the biggest at 4 litres. and it's the cheapest! but that's all to no avail if it's no good...

any comments much appreciated.

TIA

PS - could not find anyone willing to repair our broken one

bk, I have a MR ecovac (1600w), is that the same thing?

Can't honestly recommend it though. I got it for the same reasons you are considering it but the dustbag really isn't very big and it loses suction extremely quickly - when the bag is empty it's very sucky though so if you emptied it every time you used it it would be OK. It's very noisy too.

Also putting the bag back in is fiddly - and emptying it is messy - never occurred to me to put the dust in the compost bin! But in any case it's a good idea to empty it onto newspaper first so you can pick out the odd socks, coins, children, bits of lego etc it picked up at its suckiest.

HTH....
