Phil and Teds buggies for tall children

DD is 2.2 and quite tall for her age. I am about to have DD2. Today we went and looked at the Phil and Teds range and found that when we sat DD in the top seat of the Vibe her head was hitting against the top bar. In the Sport it was less obvious (as there is no bar at the top of the seat) but if we tried to pull the top cover over her it nearly scraped her head.

How come I see people using P&Ts with 3 and 4 year olds? Is there a trick? Can you even use the rain cover with a tall older child?

hi artichokes

I had this problem - also exptecing DS2 imminently and DS1 is tall for his age (2.5).

you are right the new one is better but the old model is pants.

I tried and tried to 're-arrange' the hood in mothercare and eventually conceded along with the sales assistant that they just aren't made for tall toddlers.

we actually struggled to find a double buggy that DS could fit into with good enough head room and eventually went for this one which has quite alot of leeway at the top.

but this one has its problems ... it doesn't fit through mny doors!

Thanks Nuclear

I love the look of the Urban Detour but it would not fit through our door. Also there will be many days when DD1 will not want to sit in the buggy or will be at nursery and what I love about the P&T is it can convert to a single buggy...

I just wish P&T catered for the taller child OR that someone on here would appear and tell me some trick for converting them for older children .

Artichokes - you can push the board through to the front on the doubles seat on the vibe so child doesn't hit head on bar.
Although when you do this you can't use its recline function.
Hope this helps.

Thanks guys.

If you push the board through on teh vibe can you still pull the shade cover and the raincover over your DC's head. Or will a child with a hed taller than the board prevent the covers from working?

Its rather a design flaw IMO. The top seat is designed for older children, surely they should have measured lots fo toddlers and built a seat that would fit until they were at least 3.

Hello, I didn't get the sport because Ds's head hit the hood and he was having tantrums about it even in the shop. His head doesn't anywhere near hit the hood or rain cover in the Vibe, and this is what I got.

Agree with others that you can't recline the seat with toddler in, but DS sleeps in the seat happily anyway.

Bear in mind that the older kid will only be in the small top seat while the baby is in the lie flat, so 4/5 months max? Then they can have the big comfy seat back if you want.

I have just gone and pushed the board through on the top seat like the others said and it is a million times better for DS, am so glad I read this thread, I didn't know you could do that!

Hello. ive just subscribed to mumsnet and am searching for someone who has a tall toddler (for their age) and has found it difficult finding a pushchair. My boy is 3 and looks 5 (fed up with hearing about it to be honest) cos i feel ive lost my toddler too quick
