An extra high-high chair for use at a breakfast bar - any suggestions?

Have been using the antilop until now, but I'd like DS (19mo) to eat opposite me in the kitchen at the breakfast bar. (We dont use the dining room table, its not convenient for lots of reasons).

Anyway, I'm trying to find out if there are any high chairs that go really high. I found one called Inglesina Zuma, but its £130 which is quite steep. I dont particularly want to use some kind of travel seat for our breakfast bar stools, nor a 'clip on' style seat - I dont think that would be safe/stable at that height, and he weighs 30lbs which is quite hefty.

I'd just like a normal high chair which is taller than normal. Any ideas? thanks

We looked for such a highchair, but ended up with a booster seat on our breakfast bar chairs - fortunately they are chair types not stools i.e. with a back. The only thing extra thing we have had to do is tie the chair to the table now she is big enough (20 months) to get a wobble going by rocking backwards and forwards. We also used a kiddopotamous table mat so she could get right up to the table, it has a great scoop feature that hangs over the edge of the table and catches all those dropped morsels.

I have heard of a wooden seat that comes with really long legs that you saw to size, but don't have any links for you. We also considered getting the antilop and modifying the legs somehow - like slotting the feet into longer bits of pipe. The advantage of the booster seat was that it could also be used at our formal dining table, or be taken to grannies etc. We got a really nice folding one with removeable padded cushions, rather than one of the plastic kind.

I ended up using the clamp clip on style on my breakfast bar until she was 2.5

I had the Inglesina Zuma and it was / is a nightmarish article. Don't get one. Seriously. It's now in the shed and DD uses a Tripp Trapp.

It's got more filth traps than you could ever imagine and TBH I don't think it goes high enough for a breakfast bar anyway. I could measure if you really want one, but TBH I wouldn't wish that highchair on anyone!

I've got a chicco caddy for when we're out and about, I think that would probably be ideal for using on a breakfast bar.

maybe one of these and perhaps a belt tied around your LO and the back of the seat (if you have ones with backs on) to stop him falling out?

actually, i just googled antilop highchair, and that extender i just linked to should work on the high chair you already have... just check the distance between the legs on it.

Agree with dejavous and car girl - a friend gave us a clip on one and they are brilliant - also fold flat for bottom of suitcase if you are going on holiday and sometimes keep it in car if visiting friends for tea. My daughter loves it.

thanks for all your responses! I think I may have scrap the idea unfortunately.

ROHB that looks like a great idea, but sadlly not big enough for the antilop - apparently max diagonal stretch is 30" and the antilop comes up about 32".

As I said I'm not convinced about the clip on - and have not found one with a weight limit greater than 25kg (33lb). At just over 30lb it doesn seem worth the risk!

Review of Zuma read and understood DJV - won't be getting!

Lionstar there isnt really anywhere to tie our bar chairs onto otherwise I'd do what you said - if I pop him on that he will most definately rock it over - he is a proper wriggler.

Never mind it was a nice idea!

Hi,

I have a Fresco Loft by Bloom, which is designed for a breakfast bar. Brilliant chair.

BikeRunSki · 12/12/2008 21:28

Did anyone ever find a breakfast bar height high chair? I seem to be in the same position as lynniep.

Mamas and Papas do a Bloom alike, but still too £££££ for us. I am also wary of the clip on chairs as I do know a child who was hurt when hers collapsed. And like lynniep, DS is very wiggly.
