Need some help - do I buy rear facing car seat???

Ladies, some advice please.

Need to buy a next stage up car seat - and pronto as just realised ds is too big for his stage o+ maxi cosi.

I've read all the safety stuff and am pretty convinced on that front BUT these are my issues

we are moving to the country, lots of windy lanes etc and whenever ds is in the car is his current rear facing car seat he vomits when we go on these roads. lovely.

also he is fine when he is asleep but when hes awake - he hates it - have had a few journeys of him screaming for 45 mins. Soon as hes out the car - happy as larry. Am a bit worried its going to be the same with the next stage up rear facing seat - or is it better as its higher so he could see out of the back window? At least forward facing he can see whats going on - and us.

any advice??

thanks!

luvaduck, how heavy is he? moving seats is totally down to weight and not whether your child will be happier in forward facing - safety first n all that.

You can get rear facers that can be turned to forward facing when your DS hits 9kg and then will last til he is 3-4 years old so the seat itself is bigger. he could be unhappy because his maxi cosi is a tiny baby carrier, whereas a stage 0 - 1 seat is much bigger.

PLEASE don't go forward facing until he is at least 9kg as if, god forbid, you are ever in an accident and he;s in his new forward facing seat and only weighs 8kg for example - his little neck just will not stand the force....

We have rear facing seat which will see our DD up to 25kgs. The group 1 seats are higher so your DS will be able to see more out of the window, which may well help with both the screaming and the sickness (could he be yelling because he feels sick?).

Could you get to Essex at all? If you can it might be worth contacting the Car safety officers there as they have rear facing car seat you can try in your car which might let you see how your DS gets on with them. The contact details are available on here

We have a stage 1 rear facing car seat (Britax twoway up to 25kg). Can't really answer your question as our DD1 (3 years) has never been sick and has always been happy and comfortable rear-facing. However, they are high and they get a good view - probably better than front facing where much of their view if obscured by driver / front passenger. May be worth talking to In Car Safety Centre in Milton Keynes - they're very knowledgeable. Will attempt a link:www.incarsafetycentre.co.uk

Sorry here

It might be worth trying to track down an Isofix rear facing group 1. I think Britax do one as that might make the car seat jiggle about less and hopefully stop the sickness.

Definitely phone the road safety officers in Essex, they are lovely people and will be able to advise re appropriate seats. They've also done loads of tests of group 1 rear facing seats in different cars and might be able to help with that too. Their number is 01268 297593

Good luck.
