Booster seat for toddler to sit at the table?

used2bthin · 13/10/2008 20:09

Are these a good idea? Happiseat or something like that, handi seat? kept coming up when I googled it but they are pricey even on e bay. It looked the most secure though? Any recommendations? Need to get rid of the high chair as its huge and my living room is small. The kitchen is too small for the highchair to even fit easily so need something that just lives on a dining room chair, preferably that doesn't look too hideous. Will ask for money towards it from my parents at christmas if it is more than £30 or so.

What about this? this

HellHathNoFury · 13/10/2008 20:17

I have one of these would recommend

IotasCat · 13/10/2008 20:19

we had one of thse

we only used it for travel though

it might be a bit bright for you

used2bthin · 13/10/2008 20:20

Than you both, that first one in particular is a bargain! Only thing I've just realised is that my chairs wouldn't tuck under the table with either of those on I don't think and it would look odd and space an issue etc. But maybe that would be the same with any?

x posts Iotascat, funnily enough I think that is the same as one we were given when DD was born. I chucked it out recently as we never worked out how to use it, the straps may have been tangled or something.

OP posts:
IotasCat · 13/10/2008 20:24

IIRC one strap went under the seat of the chair and one around the back - you can see in the picture

used2bthin · 13/10/2008 20:30

Yes looks very simple in the picture, I think the person who gave it to us had done something with one of the straps beacuse we all had a go and couldn't work it out. We all had many goes in fact. Oh well.

DS used a handysitt when we popped into Starbucks at the w/end. I hadn't seen one before and really liked it. You're right....they are still quite expensive - even on Ebay but it was very sturdy and DS liked it. It folds flat for storage so you could take it with you when out and about (tho not sure how compact it goes).

I'm in the middle of trying to justify the cost to myself but I'm not winning! [hmm}

NappiesLaGore · 13/10/2008 20:42

used2bthin, where (roughly) in the country are you? i have a booster you can have gratis, but i take forever to get round to posting things i have to find boxes for

used2bthin · 13/10/2008 20:47

Nappiesgalore I'm in Oxford that is a very kind thought, where are you? Postage may be quite a bit. I'm very tempted by the handiseat YummeeMumme not least because it would look nice and also seemed very sturdy. Very pricey though, more than my huge highchair!

OP posts:
NappiesLaGore · 13/10/2008 20:51

oxford is an hour and halfs drive away apparently (dp has encyclopedic knowledge of roads and journey times to drive from any point to any other in the uk, it would seem)

it might be easy to package up... lemme have a wee looky tomorrow and see. weighs nothing much so oughtn't to cost much to post

used2bthin · 13/10/2008 20:54

Thank you Nappieslagore that is so kind of you, you saying it is light has made me think though? Is it a blow up one? If so I have actually got one that I leant to a friend but will be getting back. It was given to me by my cousin so when DD was small so I've never even tried it, I wonder if that is what you've got? A blue thing that inflates?

OP posts:
NappiesLaGore · 13/10/2008 20:57

nope. gave that one away already

lemme see if i can find a link...
it looks kind of like hellhathnofurys linked one, only it sort of reclines. you can use without tray pulled up to the table or with tray away from it.

used2bthin · 13/10/2008 21:02

Oh ok thats great as wasn't sure dd would be ok in the blow up one every day as she's a wriggler and quite strong usually! don't worry about link, if postage is not very much and you don't mind at all, I'd be very grateful, thank you and will pay you the postage (prob have to be cheque would that work? Have never actually bought from ebay despite spending a lot of time looking so no pay pal account yet!

NappiesLaGore · 13/10/2008 21:06

I got a cheap one from tesco for £6.99 - it is cheap and cheerful but ds sits in it ok and it doesnt have lots of nooks and crannies for food to get trapped down either. They had them in blue and pink.

Seona1973 · 13/10/2008 22:09

actually mine looks like the one in the first link - it sits quite far back on the chair and it fits under the dining room table fine

used2bthin · 14/10/2008 13:41

Thanks Seona thats good to know, am going to CAT NappiesG about hers but if that doesn't work out I think I should go for one as you describe. Can't really justify £50 on a wooden one just because they look nice!

We've had (and have as he has sn) one of these for years- ds3 is now 5 and as our table is high won't be coming out for some while,we have the kiddicare one

used2bthin · 14/10/2008 19:23

Sounds like it is a good one then thats three who have been in favour of that one I think.
